Sherri Brown Perry ~ Breast Cancer

Friends and family are asking what they can do to assist Sherri and her family, since Sherri was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in February 2016. She has a rare "hormone based" breast cancer which has matastised out of the immediate area of the tumor. This type (diagnosed in only 10-15% of all breast cancers) is considered aggressive and spreads fast. She is currently taking 4 different drugs with each chemo treatment, in an attempt to slow its growth and hopefully shrink the tumor before surgery. She is planning a double mastectomy in July; followed by another 8 months of hormone killing chemo treatments (every 3 weeks). After she's done with a full year of chemo, she will have to take oral meds for 5 years (or more) to stop her from producing Estrogen and Progesterone; since those are the hormones which cause this type of cancer to multiply at such an aggressive rate, and/or possibly cause the cancer to return elsewhere in her body. Sherri has a long physical, emotional, and stressful road ahead of her.
As Sherri's mom, I would like to suggest what will help them the most. Gift cards to C&H Cafeteria (at Northgate Mall in Durham), BP or Citgo gas cards, or CASH for bills that need to be paid in the coming months. The cafeteria I mentioned is on their way home, so gift cards would allow them to stop for dinner after a long day at Duke. It's nearly 2 hours round trip from their house, so the BP or Citgo cards would help with gas expenses. And of course, money will always help with paying copays, medical expenses, and miscellaneous bills.
William (Sherri's husband) is currently out of work due to continued health issues with his liver. Due to side effects, he recently lost his job of 29 years and may eventually need to apply for disability. Sherri can no longer be a Substitute Teacher. Due to her lowered immune system, she's not allowed to be in the classroom with potential viruses and germs. Their son Jaysen, is attending an Early College High School, and also works part time at one of the Ranger Stations at Falls Lake.
Any amount you could donate would be greatly appreciated by their family. Our goal is to try to get enough funds to help with their mortgage and medical expenses.
