"For the Love of Erika" is a non-profit organization founded by Taylor Goodman-Leong, in memory of her childhood friend who passed away from cancer in 2005.
The mission of "For the Love of Erika" is to bring smiles to children in need.
Taylor's friend, Erika, was diagnosed with brain cancer when she was just 6 years old. When Erika was feeling well, Taylor would visit with her and bring her presents in hopes of cheering Erika up. When Erika was feeling better, she shared with Taylor how good she felt when Taylor visited and expressed a wish to collect and donate gifts to other sick and disadvantaged children. Despite being only 7 years old at the time, the girls collected 75 gifts their first year. Unfortunately, Erika passed away before deliveries could begin. Taylor has spent the past 11 years keeping Erika's loving spirit alive through "For the Love of Erika".
In the past 11 years, "For the Love of Erika" has collected more than 13,000 gifts that have been personally delivered to shelters, hospitals, and the Department of Children and Families throughout New England. In addition to this, with the help of local businesses, schools, and the community, "For the Love of Erika" hosts holiday parties or homeless children and families, raises money for summer camp scholarships and swim lessons, has arranged and delivered clothing donations, and has provided school supplies and backpacks for disadvantaged children.
Taylor's goal was to expand "For the Love o Erika" throughout New England before she graduates high school (June 2017). We have set up a GoFundMe account in hopes that "For the Love of Erika" can raise the $10,000 needed to reach those in need throughout New England. We are also hoping to find volunteers throughout New England to help with collections and donations.
