RunIFM Half Marathon

Tax deductible
As most of you know, I manage to keep myself pretty busy with part-time work, babysitting my granddaughter and a bit of travel. But, golly gee, that doesn't seem to be enough. I am going to take on something new:training for A HALF MARATHON!!!! Now:I'm no spring chicken and this will be much more of a walk than a run, but I do believe that 13.1 miles in less than 4 hours will be a challenge.
There are two things that are fueling this quest.

1) It is a fundraiser for an excellent local non-profit health organization called the Institute for Family Medicine. IFM is a non-profit 501(c)3 providing medical care to those in need in St. Louis and St. Louis County. It is headed up by my former classmate, Dr. Dave Campbell. Please visit: www.ifm-stl.org for more information about this wonder organization.

2) I am going to be participating with several women with whom I went to grade school and high school, including Veronica"”Dr. Dave's wife and Sue, who is most definitely my oldest friend since we met in 2nd grade. Since we all have (or are about to) turn the big 6-0 this year, it will be great fun for us to share this accomplishment.

So:I am currently in training. I bought my expensive running shoes. I paid my marathon fee. And I can do four miles in an hour fairly easily. Can I keep that up for over 3 hours? I sure hope so. And I'm hoping that a few people out there will be willing to encourage me by pledging a few bucks to see me do it. We will be participating in the Rock n' Roll Marathon which will take place on October 27 in downtown St. Louis.

And for more information about IFM check out this great article from the Post-Dispatch a few weeks ago: http://www.stltoday.com/lifestyles/health-med-fit/free-clinic-in-food-pantry-seeks-patients-trust/article_372b2912-e3ea-567c-ae33-a959a89a3519.html

Wish me luck!
