I am a development economist working as faculty in the economics department of Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, Texas, USA. In one of my research projects, our team is providing free "double fortified salt" to schooling going Kids in one of the poorest states of India, Bihar. Bihar's popualtion is 100 million and about 50% of children suffer from severe anemia and iodine deficiency disorder is also prevalent.
While interacting with the anemic children in Bihar, we met a 9 years old girl Rishu Kumari who was suffering from severe anemia and liver disease. She is very sick and her poor parents who earn $5 per day cant afford her treatment. Rishu's condition is deteriorating day by day and she is not getting any medical tretament.
Family & Economic Background: Rishu lives in a joint family of 8 members and has 3 sisters & 1 brother with a land holding size of around 2 acres. Her father Shashi Bhushan Sharma is a migrant labourer working in a neighbour state in a pipeline project for a daily wage of $5. Family doesn’t have even basic facilities like toilet, drinking water source etc. It doesn’t even have a proper concrete house. So the family is mostly dependent on agricultural income for meeting all it’s requirements.
We know the beneficiary as she is resident of my village, and she goes to school where we are supplying double fortified salt. Our field team regurlaly monitor her health. GoFund will transfer the fund into my bank account and then the funds will be be transferred to the project manager (Mr. Abhijeet Kumar) through wire transfer, who will taker her to a Hospital in New Delhi and will spend the fund on her treatment.
