Brent Kennedy was a premier professional dancer with his wife Stacy. They danced with David Taylor Dance Company in Denver and also with James Clouser in Dayton, Ohio for the Dayton Ballet. Brent had a spinal stoke in 2004 and spent 4 months in recovery at Penrose hospital, leaving him an incomplete quad. Before his stroke, Brent built his home out of used wood, striving for low environmental impact with solar heating and electricity, greenhouses, a well, chickens, and goats on about 47 acres. Brent and Stacy adopted a daughter, Meilyn, from China who is now 17 years old, an accomplished ballet dancer, and a high shcool graduate who is currently studying at the Joffery Ballet in Chicago. Brent's wife Stacy still teaches advanced ballet, dance academics and yoga.
Brent will use this Go Fund Me money towards a new wheel chair van.
Brent is currently working for the Pikes Peak Workforce Center in Cripple Creek, is Chair for the Southeastern Colorado Renewable Energy Society (SECRES) and the Peak Alliance for a Sustainable Future and he volunteers many hours to help others, even ringing the bell at Christmas for the Salvation Army. Brent was President of the school Board in Cripple Creek for 6 of his 8 years there, and has volunteered at Penrose Hospital for the past 12 years through the "Rehab Buddies", giving hope to patients with life-changing injuries.
Brent and his wife are still avid environmental enthusiasts, living off the grid, using a wood stove and preserving the land. He is experienced and desires to begin a solar design and contracting business.
The wheelchair van will make it possible for Brent to be safe on the roads, be a dynamic leader in the community and will allow him freedom to be authentically available to others. Living in a wheelchair has given Brent a unique and humble outlook on how people are treated.
Brent is motivated to empower others and he is the first to help anyone he can.
My husband and I are so proud of Brent, Stacy and Meilyn and so thankful that other people care.
I still dream of him rising from his wheelchair and walking into his future.
