Reilly's SDR op

Donation protected

Hi, everyone.

I just want to start off with saying thank you for visiting this page!

Reilly is 4 years old and has spastic diplegia Cerebral Palsy. Cerebral Palsy is a condition that affects muscle control and movement. The spasticity means muscle tone is tight and stiff causing a decrease in range of movement and also causes pain.

Reilly can currently walk unaided but with difficulty. He has such a gait that he becomes tired and suffers aches and pains regularly. Due to his gait he loses his balance often and falls over a lot! Sometimes really hurting himself which has led to trips up to A&E. As Reilly grows his muscles become tighter making walking more and more difficult.
His legs are already so tight that even when he is wearing his AFOs (as in picture above) he is unable to fully put his heel down. As time as gone on AFO's now provide no benefit to Reilly whatsoever.

Due to his shear determination Reilly is such a strong happy little boy whor would benefit dramatically from an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR). Heach was referred for the assessment and today we were told he is the ideal candidate and completely meets their criteria for the surgery BUT I was informed that the NHS no longer provide funding for this life changing surgery and we would need to raise £21,000. This is for the surgery alone! We have not been told of any (if any) aftercare costs!!

SDR is a surgical procedure that involves dividing and cutting some of the nerves in the spinal cord that contribute to spasticity in the lower limbs. But it doesn't come cheap...

We would like to ask for any donation possible and I can assure you if will be greatly appreciated. Reilly is such a happy little boy and like any parent, we want the absolute best for Reilly. To see him not wake up every night due to pain and spasms, walk longer without asking to be carried or go in his buggy due to his little legs getting tired or painful is the biggest wish for us as anyone could imagine.

We do plan to do some fundraising... I don't yet know where to start and several people suggested starting here first.

Thank you xxx
