Dog Killed Fight Backyard Beekeeping
Due to loose restrictions in the city of Boca Raton on beekeeping, we recently lost a beloved member of our family; our dog, Delilah. A week ago, she was let outside to use the bathroom and it was only a few minutes later that a tragedy occurred in our own backyard. Hundreds and hundreds of African killer bees swarmed our dog. There were so many of them that initially we could not go out there and get her, and by the time that we could it was too late. The bees attacked her, stinging her and poisoning her with their toxin, which causes neurological damage and internal bleeding into her brain, causing inevitable death. This is a problem because even though we went out there through the swarm of bees to save our dog, she had already been stung so many times that even rushing her to the vet and doing everything we could was not enough. We learned that our next door neighbors have been bee keeping for the last five years and have multiple hives only a few feet away from where our dog was attacked and killed. The bees did not come from our own backyard, and there is no possible way our dog could have instigated the attack. It could have been anyone out there when the bees swarmed, and any life could be taken by these bees. Help us fight to get the laws and restrictions that need to be in place to help save the lives of people and pets living in residential Boca neighborhoods. Thank you for your contributions.
