Richard Bandys' Liver Transplant Fund
Charla Bandy TRACY, CA
Our father, Richard W. Bandy Jr, was diagnosed with end stage liver disease and liver cancer last year. He is going to need a liver transplant, and is now #1 to receive a liver at Stanford Medical center. They have told us that he should receive one within the next 2-3 months. He also has been taking Interferon treatments for several months now to control his Hepatitis C which caused the liver cancer. The interferon has been working and his hepatitis is almost completely undetectable. Although he is still going to need liver transplant surgery. This has been and still is to be a very expensive process, so we are setting up a fundraiser for our dad.
Fortunately he does have medical insurance, which definately helps; however, our parents are going to have an enormous amount of expenses due to the transplant surgery, medications, specialists, and living expenses. Following his transplant, he will have to temporarily relocate near Stanford for three months for evaluations, labs, and incase complications occur after surgery. They are looking into a few different options such as a hotel or renting an apartment. There is also the stress of maintaing his ranchette and many other costs that we can't anticipate which may result due to his condition as well.
Our parents are very hardworking, proud people, who have trouble asking for assistance, especially when it is needed. We, his children, feel helpless at times and want to do as much as we can to help.We pray that by creating this fundraiser, as well as putting on a few other fundraisers, this would help reduce some of the stress of this financial burden off our parents. They are both dealing with so much right now and we want to do our best to help them. We can promise that any prayers, money, or any other assistance that you may be able to offer will be greatly appreciated.
Dad's transplant went very well!! He is in icu and the breathing tubes were removed this morning. The surgery took about 5 1/2 hours. He is recovering very fast and may be released from icu tomorrow
