Dear Friends and Family,
My name is Edgar Diaz and this fall I thrilled to start on a new adventure teaching at Miami Edison Senior High School in Miami-Dade County. At my school, close to 90% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. As a member of Teach For America, I am seeking to provide transformational change for the students in the Miami-Dade region and to directly address educational inequity in the school systems. I believe that every child deserves a quality education, no matter what obstacles they have in their way!
At Miami Edison Senior High, I will be teaching 9th grade Freshman Experience. This class is designed to prepare students for the transition from middle school to high school along with getting them college ready. I am excited to walk my students through this new transition but also getting them to start thinking about college. I have many plans for this year that will help my students in every class they take in high school and in college. There will be a huge emphasis on writing, literacy, and organization in my classroom.
This is where you all come in! I will need your support in gathering essential materials and/or funds for my students. I would like to provide them basic supplies such as paper, pencils, pens, folders, markers, highlighters, journals, etc. Also, I would like to build a classroom library to encourage a love of reading! If you have books you would like to give away, I would greatly take them.
You can donate any amount if you are able to. Every penny that is donated will go directly to my classroom. If you would like to send supplies or books, I can gladly provide my address. Lastly, I will be making a donor wall with everyone's name who has donated something. If you would like to write a special message to my students, it will go on the wall as well.
