Grace Sharp has posted a new announcement for TLC for Marie.
It has been nearly a year since I was officially diagnosed with HER2 breast cancer in my left breast. Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and support. This has been a challenging journey. Last March, I had a port implanted in the right side of my chest so that I could begin chemotherapy infusions. After chemotherapy from March through June, my body needed time to heal. I had a difficult time with the side effects from the chemotherapy. In August, I had a nipple-sparing bilateral mastectomy or both breasts removed. Soon after, the surgeon discovered that they did not get clean margins and that more of my breast needed to be removed including the nipple. The plastic surgeon implanted expanders to stretch the tissue before beginning radiation. I had one expander removed and replaced with a breast implant while I waited to expand the other. Radiation was involved and lasted for 30 treatments. (The picture below was from about a month ago when I had my last radiation and was allowed to ring the bell symbolizing the end of that phase!) I also began more infusion therapy which included two of the four drugs that were used in chemotherapy. I have to have injections to suppress my hormones and help strengthen my bones as well as a variety of medications. Most of these treatments will continue for the next year and I will be monitored for up to the next five years. Unfortunately, there are a lot of side effects from these treatments which make it difficult for me to express my thoughts and emotions. I knew that I needed to focus on my health so my children are now living with their father. I do enjoy having time with them in shorter spurts so that I can focus my energy. I am scheduled to have a third surgery on January 25 which will swap the expander for an implant. I am very nervous about this surgery. Most costs of this surgery are estimated at around $2500 since it is the beginning of the year and I have to meet a deductible. Any help that you are able to contribute through my Go Fund Me page is much appreciated. Direct payments can be made to her thru Applepay to avoid other fees. I am looking to continue to make good progress through my treatments and heal my mind, body, and spirit. I am hopeful for a good year and wish you all the same.
