Danielle Needs A Wheelchair Van for College!
KCCO!

Hey everybody! Let me tell you all about Danielle....

When Danielle was 9 months old, she was totally paralyzed after a severe reaction to a childhood vaccine. She was ultimately diagnosed with an illness called Transverse Myelitis. Since then, she has faced numerous health issues and surgeries over the last 20 years. She is still paralyzed from the waist down, and unable to walk. She now relies on her power wheelchair to get around. Her biggest problem in life is transporting her power wheelchair.  It's too heavy to lift, so she needs a special van to transport it. That is why we setup this GoFundMe page! Danielle would like to get some help to buy a wheelchair accessible mini-van. She needs one that is reliable and has a side entry ramp, and one that will last the 4-6 years of College she still has ahead of her.  Danielle is in her third year at The University of Memphis and has the dream of eventually getting a Masters Degree in Psychology. Due to her many physical disabilities, Danielle attends College locally here in Memphis.

Danielle  started College at Southwest Tennessee Community College and then transferred to the University of Memphis . Getting her to and from school has been challenging. Without proper transportation, Danielle faces a huge stumbling block to her dream. The reason why she wants to get a Degree in Psychology, is that she wants to eventually get a job as a Clinical Psychologist. Even with all her own disabilities, she decided that she wants to devote her life helping others!

Your donation can help Danielle buy a van so she can get to and from College. We believe that we can find a good used handicap equipped van for around $25,000. Unfortunately, a New Wheelchair Accessible mini van (like the one pictured below) costs $45-50,000! If you can help Danielle with her dream, please make a small donation! Every penny counts, and even small donations can add up! Or if you have a reliable mini van that you would like to donate, or if you know somebody that has one that they can donate, please contact us! All funds will go directly to purchasing and maintaining a Handicap Van for Danielle. Thank you for your interest, and feel free to ask questions! Please spread the word about Danielle and this GoFundMe page, and lets try to reach her goal as soon as possible!

This is the style of van that Danielle so desperately needs!

This will be our very last update:

Today, Danielle will graduate from the University of Memphis with her Bachelors Degree in Psychology. The ceremony is at the FedEx Forum in Memphis at 10 am. Danielle wanted to say Thank You, and invite everyone to come to the graduation. (It is open to the public. ) Unfortunately, we never achieved her goal and were unable to get her a van, but she will use this money in the future, as a down payment on one once she starts work. Thank you so much for your support over the last 5 years.

Hello everyone! Danielle just made the Dean's List for the Fall 2017 Semester at the University of Memphis! Her hard work has definitely paid off, and she is cruising straight towards her Bachelor's Degree! We still havent been able to get her a wheelchair van, but we have been doing our best in the meantime. Our old van now has 148,000 miles on it but its running well for now. It is still very hard to get her chair in and out of the van, especially during bad weather! Please share her story, we still have hope that she can get a van soon. Thanks ya'll!

Wow, first step completed!

Danielle graduated from Southwest Tennessee Community College last week! Its the first step in her journey to getting her Masters in Psychology. She will now transfer to the University Of Memphis in the Fall (2016) and continue on her path to getting her Bachelors Degree in Psychology. Then onto the final goal! This is the time when she needs the most assistance, and a Handicap Van would be a huge blessing! If we are unable to get her a van, she will have to spend some very long days on campus. Some days she may have to dropped off at 8am for a 1pm class, then have to wait until 4pm to be picked up. We will be doing whatever is necessary to limit her down time, but without a van that she can drive, long waits will be inevitable. She really would love to be more independent, but that's just not possible without a van that she can drive herself. Our current transport van is a standard mini-van with a manual fold-up ramp, and can not be modified for her to drive. Due to her vast medical bills over the past years, we are not able to purchase a van for her. If you can help in any way, please spread the word!

The Memphis Police Association will be hosting a "Miles for Memphis 5K" in honor of Danielle on June 25, 2016. A portion of the proceeds will go to her van fund, so please visit the site below to sign up:

Sorry for such a delay in posting updates, but Danielle has been back in the hospital twice over the last 4 months, and had 2 more minor surgeries. She is doing well, but keep her in your thoughts. Danielle just started her 3rd year of College at Southwest Tennessee Community College. She has just a few more classes and then she will be heading to U of M for the hard stuff! Once she starts at U of M, it will be almost impossible for us to get her to and from school. Please share Danielle's story with all your friends. She really needs a Handicap van so transportation will not be a hurdle for her. Share, share, share!
