The Army Said No. Will You Say Yes?

Donation protected
My son recently attempted to join the United States Army in order to follow in the footsteps of his father. While at MEPS, he was told he would need ito see an ophthalmologist due to an issue they saw in his eyes. Upon further inspection, he was diagnosed with keratoconus and denied entrance into the US Army. Absolutely no other factor was stopping him.

Keratoconus is a disorder of the eye which results in a progressive thinning of the cornea. The disease can result in many things to include blindness.

With much research, we found Dr. Boxer Wachler and sent off his eye records for a free assessment. The results came back and Dr. Boxer Wachler recommends two sight-saving procedures! He will need Halcomb C3-R in both eyes which will stop the progression of the thinning of the cornea and will need an intact in his right eye to help decrease the coning of the cornea.

There is hope after all! However, these procedures are only done in Beverly Hills and are not covered by insurance. The total cost of this trip will include: 2 plane tickets from Austin, TX to Los Angeles, CA (~$540), a rental car (~$25 per day), motel stay for 3 nights ($230 total), eye exam ($395), Halcomb C3-R in two eyes ($7600), Intact in one eye unless progression occurs before the procedure ($5000), prescriptions ($80-$300), and vitamin supplements ($264). The math is overwhelming to a 22 year old working an hourly position just trying to get along in his young adult life.

Your financial help will mean this disease is halted early in its tracks before more progression can happen, thus needing further treatments. Dealing with this now means we won't deal with corneal transplants later in life. Dealing with this now gives him another shot to attempt to enter the US Army by means of a waiver.

Without your help, my son will continue his young adult life with a huge monetary debt due to no fault of his own. My son and I (his mother) would like to attempt this trip this summer in late July 2017. I know that doesn't give us much time, but with this disease, time works against you. The doctor has recommended not to wait. Will you say yes? Can you help him earn even part of this?
