Dear friend of mine and many , Megan Keller was unfortunately diagnosed with breast cancer last week - Tuesday, April 18th, 2017. Megan is the loving, thoughtful, hard working wife to David as well as mother to Collins and Jadynn (their 2 girls and the light of their lives). Megan is also 21 weeks pregnant with their third child - the little boy that they have dreamed of watching football games with and working on cars along his side!
The cancer has been identified as Left Invasive Mammary Carcinoma with Ductal and Lobular features, stage 2 aggressive breast cancer. To protect the baby, Megan will be starting with a special round of chemo to allow the baby 10 -12 weeks to grow. They will then take him via c-section. Once he's here safely, she will begin another round of 12 weeks chemo. At that time preparation for surgery will begin. Most likely a mastectomy, but nothing is certain at this time. Over the next several days, meetings with the breast oncologist and nutrionist, an echocardiogram, laboratory tests, genetic testing, central line (chemotherapy port) placement/surgery, a chemotherapy education meeting, followup ultrasounds and another possible biopsy on bilateral breasts and lymphnodes, as well as a mammogram will be completed.
As each of these appointments happen, we will learn more of the future plans, but as of today this is the game plan. Thank you for all your love and prayers!!!! (From Megan)
Thankfully, Megan will be eligible for disability pay but only at a small fraction of her income that this family survives on - in addition to, David will also be periodically having to take leave of absences from work to care for not only Megan and their 2 girls but a premature baby in the near future also. The medical bills including prescriptions and copays, daycare, car payments and insurance, gas, groceries, as well as electricity and water bills add up tremendously fast as we all know too well. Please consider helping their family financially if you are able or please contact me (kelly Konrath) with more direct ways of offering assistance to this Amazing family. Megan or I will do our best to keep you all updated on their journey and her progress through this battle.
