¿QUÉ ES UNIRAID?
UNIRAID es una gran aventura solidaria para estudiantes universitarios con el objetivo de proporcionar un mínimo de 30 kg de material escolar a las escuelas más remotas del desierto del Sáhara.
Durante 9 días recorreremos marruecos con un coche de más de 20 años a través del Atlas y de rutas del Dakar para poder llegar a nuestro destino. No es una prueba de velocidad sino una aventura, en la que tendremos que llegar a nuestros destinos parciales navegando con una brújula y un roadbook, alternando conducción diurna y nocturna.
Este proyecto supone un reto de emprendimiento para nosotros, dos jóvenes universitarios con recursos económicos limitados para poder conseguir tal hazaña.
WHAT IS UNIRAID?
UNIRAID is a big solidarity adventure for students with the objective of supplying a minimum of 30kg of school material to the most remote schools in the Sahara Desert.
For 9 days, we will drive through Morocco with a 20-year-old car, going across the Atlas mountain range and Dakar routes to get to our destination. This is not a speed competition, but more of an adventure, which we’ll need to get to our destinations with only a compass and a road-book, driving both day and night.
This project proposes an economic challenge for us, two college students with limited monetary resources to achieve such a feat.
OBJETIVO
Este proyecto tiene como objetivo hacer llegar un mínimo de 30Kg de material escolar solidario a las escuelas y aldeas remotas del desierto del Sáhara. Para conseguir este objetivo es necesario cumplir los siguientes requisitos:
• El equipo debe estar formado por estudiantes entre 18 y 28 años.
• El coche debe tener más de 20 años de antigüedad, tracción a 2 ruedas y un máximo de 1.400cc.
Además de estos requerimientos para poder superar las exigencias técnicas de la ruta es imprescindible el trabajo en equipo de los diferentes participantes.
OBJECTIVE
This project has the objective of getting a minimum of 30kg of school and solidarity material to the remote schools and villages of the desert of the Sahara. To achieve this objective, it is compulsory to meet these requirements:
•The team must be formed by college students between 18 and 28 years old.
•The car must be at least 20 years old, two-wheel drive and an engine not bigger than a maximum capacity of 1.400cc.
In addition to this requirement to overcome the technical challenges of the route, the teamwork between the participants in indispensable.
EL ITINERARIO
El punto de partida será Tánger. Después cruzaremos Marruecos por el interior, atravesando la cordillera del Atlas en dirección al desierto de Erg Chebbi, donde haremos entrega del material escolar y solidario.
A continuación, nos dirigiremos a Marrakech donde realizaremos una parada de un día. Posteriormente regresaremos a Tánger, punto final de nuestro recorrido. Un total de 9 días que combinan conducción por carreteras de montaña, pistas, arena y dunas.
ITINERARY
The starting point will be Tanger. Afterwards, we will drive across Morocco, crossing the Atlas mountain range towards the desert of Erg Chebbi, where we will make delivery of school and solidarity material.
Next, we will go to Marrakech where we will make a one-day stop. Later, we will return to Tanger, the final point of our tour. A total of 9 days that combine driving on mountain roads, tracks, sand and dunes.
EL COCHE
Para disputar este rally hemos escogido un Seat Ibiza 1.4SL de 1998, hemos apostado por este vehículo ya que cumple los requisitos de participación y presenta las siguientes características:
• Coste muy bajo, el precio de compra del vehículo ha sido mínimo dado nuestro bajo presupuesto.
• Fiabilidad y robustez, buscamos un vehículo con una mecánica sencilla y de fácil reparación.
• Poco peso, muchos de los kilómetros del itinerario transcurren en tierra, terreno en el que es muy importante reducir peso.
• Bajo consumo, dado el reducido número de gasolineras en nuestro itinerario y nuestro presupuesto, es una característica a tener en cuenta.
THE CAR
The car we have chosen to use in this rally, a Seat Ibiza 1.4SL from 1998, was chosen since it meets the participation requirements and has the following characteristics:
• Very low cost, the purchase price of the vehicle has been minimal given our low budget.
• Reliability and robustness, we were looking for a vehicle with simple mechanics and easy repair.
• Lightweight, many of the kilometers of the route take place on sand, where it is very important to reduce weight.
• Fuel efficient car, given the small number of gas stations in our itinerary and our budget, this is an important characteristic that needed to be taken into consideration.
FINANCIACIÓN
La financiación consta de tres apartados diferentes:
• La inscripción a la prueba, incluye el transporte del coche desde Algeciras hasta Tánger y la asistencia técnica en carrera.
• La compra y puesta a punto del vehículo para el desierto, incluyendo ruedas off-road, faros de alta potencia, vinilado para patrocinadores y material para desatascar el coche en arena.
• Gastos añadidos, incluyendo combustible durante la prueba y viaje hasta Algeciras.
FUNDING
The funding consists of three different sections:
• Sign-up fee for the race, which includes transportation of the car from Algeciras to Tanger and technical assistance during the race.
• The purchase and set-up of the vehicle for the desert, including off-road wheels, high-power headlight, vinyl for sponsors and material to unstuck the car in the sand.
• Added expenses, including fuel during the rally and the travel to Algeciras.
