Nikki's Medical Fund

A little under 6 months ago Nikki presented herself to her local hospital where she was told by doctors she had a tumour growing on her brain. Later that night she was flown to St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney to undergo emergency surgery. The tumour had grown into the part of the brain that controls her movements so that meant they could only remove 60%. After the surgery the doctors found Nikki had lost all movement on the left side of her body. Now she has to go through extensive physiotherapy twice a week. Her surgeon was absolutely amazed by the type of tumour Nikki had and couldn't believe how big it was, he believes that it may grow back. Lucky for Nikki the tumour was a benign tumour and not cancerous.
After Nikki was discharged from the hospital it was advised to her family that she should not be alone, so her mum Donna quit her job to be Nikki's full time carer.
Nikki is currently presenting again with all the signs she had before the tumour was found, indicating the tumour could be growing.
As Nikki isn't a hospital patient her MRI's are no longer bulked billed. This means they will all be out of pocket cost. For those who don't know MRI's are expensive and with Nikki's condition she is required to have 3 or more a year as the doctors want to monitor it regularly so they can be on top of it straight away if they see it is starting to grow again. Along with the cost of the MRI's Nikki and her family also have to worry about the trips they have to make to Sydney as that is where Nikki's surgeon is based.
The reason I've started this fundraiser is so Nikki and her family can have a little less to stress about when it comes to the time of year where Nikki has to have another MRI and the trips they will have to make to Sydney through out the years to come.
