I don't know how to ask for help but beyond me, my pride and my fears, I need to ask for anyone's help to raise money for my father who has been very sick and very far from me.
It's been 11 years since I've seen my father, which to those who have raced against time to try to be with theirs before they passed and lost, is not a long time, it is not a lifetime lost and there is still hope yet.
My father has polio but has never been defined by it. He has always strived for happiness and pursued his passions. He is a brilliant and talented musician and artist, I have him to thank for my love and relationship with the arts.
When he left to go back we thought I'd visit frequently but life had some lessons and unexpected plans that consumed my life. I lost my mother to cancer and my boyfriend tragically after, leaving me to raise my younger brother and survive in this world. Now that I finally reached a place of stability, I hear news about my father being continually hospitalized and the fear of losing my last parent is setting in.
He is essentially a parapalegic now, unable to work for over a year due to being bed ridden. In his older age the polio has made it increasingly more difficult to walk causing frequent falls and breaks. His blood pressure has been extremely problematic and on more than one occasion landed him in the hospital on the verge of death. He cannot sit for more than 20-30 minutes without becoming dizzy and needs round the clock care for medicine and tending to basic needs since he cannot do anything for himself. I have been without information for so long but by the grace of God and the universe a family friend has kindly kept me in the loop and helped me get in contact with him, taking action and seeing to his care down there while I try to raise funds.
He doesn't have a whole lot of help in Peru, it has been students and friends that have aided him out of the kindness of their heart and I want to try to eliminate as much worry from him so he can get stable and hopefully making art once again so he can support himself at some point. This is a matter of being housed and cared for or being left homeless and disabled in Peru, he will die on the streets which is why I need to raise money for his stay.
It cost around $450 American dollars per month for his stay, ideally I'd like to set him up for a year but I will take anything, absolutely anything, at this point and move forward, day by day to see what we can get, even if it's just a month, that's one more month of help for him. I am pulling out all of my 401k from my previous job just to visit and pay for some of his stay and cover the week without pay I'll be taking to go down there, but I need any assistance people are willing to give in between now and then, even if it's just sharing my story. If I can get at least a hundred people to donate 5 dollars I can at the very least get him another month to figure things out. This money would give him round the clock care, medicine, nursing assistance, emergency hospital visits, room and board, food and nourishment, physical therapy, rehabilitation, and most importantly, peace of mind for wellness.
Those of you who really know me, who really know my whole story and everything I've overcome and accomplished, know how much this means to me, you know how deep my gratitude goes for you helping me and my family and know I would do anything in my power to help the people I love, as I have before. These are perilous times for the world, so many people marked by tragedy and I am just one story, so if you find it in your heart to share and help me as well, you would make an everlasting impact in my life.
