BEN’S STORY
Benjamin Williams was born February 26, 1972.
Ben is 47 yrs old and has been on dialysis for 27 years of his life.
He received a kidney transplant when he was 20. His father donated for him and it was lost 3 1/2 years later from an intolerance to an anti rejection  drug. It almost killed him then, but he was able to come back and has been on some form of dialysis or other since then.
Ben and his family have been told he was going to die many times and would miraculously recover and live to love and be a support to family and life.
His kidney disease was discovered at the age of 16 when he close lined himself on a volleyball net and was knocked out. The paramedics took
him to the hospital and routine test turned up the kidney disease that was auto immune related.
He is very proactive about his health and health care which has made him a modern miracle.
He has a fierce love of his children and desire and passion for life and to live, that has carried him through many crisis’ over the years.
No matter the cost to him, he never gives up. He just views each obstacle in life as another difficult battle he has to get through.
His children reside in Montana and travel to spend time with him as they can afford to do so and through out his life they call him a warrior. They love him and are a wonderful  support and inspiration to him to keep trying and to not give up. Several children have adopted him as their father, due to his great love and compassion and they have been a great support to him.
Ben has a number of auto immune disorders that prevent him from living in Montana close to family and have the support he needs on a daily basis.
A year and a half ago Ben was given an emergency referral to Mayo Clinic in Phoenix stating he needed a heart and kidney transplant, but his
heart function  and overall health has not made it possible to receive one.  3 months after arriving in Phoenix it was necessary to amputate his left leg from his knee down.
He has recovered and has a prosthetic leg and is able to move forward as much as possible to live and be with his children.
He loves the great outdoors and has since his youth.  At the age of 12 he saw pictures of falcons, hawks and falconers and it  became a passionate pursuit. Working under other falconers he was able to progress and become a Master Falconer.  2 of his children have followed him and trained and became apprentices. They have had and flown their own birds.
His inability to be on uneven surfaces in the country and his general overall health prevent him from being in the field as he has loved to do.
In the last week of March 2019, he was on his way to the park with 2 of his daughters and suddenly had a heart attack. His children did CPR on him and called 911 and he was brought back to life and taken to the Chandler Hospital. He was on life support for 2 days and when they were able to wake him. His children and family had several days of rejoicing and and out pouring of Love that touched many of the healthcare professionals and his family.
He has been released to be home w/ family and is under the Home health care.
We don't know how long Ben will be here with us. Every day is a gift and a miracle . But when he woke from his life support he wept and stated with great conviction “I have so much to live for!"
Ben is on disability and has struggled to make it each month financially. He doesn't want to be a burden to others and his mounting medical needs and expense for those trying to support the needs and transportation needs of his family to help with just daily needs is necessitating we ask for help. Please support Ben. Any donation is appreciated.
