Gabriel’s journey

On Saturday June 1st, Steve, Alondra and their children Yuliana and Ezekiel welcomed baby Gabriel to their family. Just as they were settling in with their newest addition, a series of unexpected events began to transpire.
At four weeks old, Gabe and his parents were at a doctors appointment to check on a potential heart murmur- within hours Gabe was being rushed to Sick Kids hospital in Toronto for an emergency Balloon Valvolo plasty on his heart. If all went well with this surgery, Gabe would be able to start his recovery. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case and after the first surgery, Gabe’s health started to regress. His heart was working at a marathon pace just to breath, so the team at Sick kids placed him under sedation in the Cardiac Critical Care unit. Doctors once again tried this surgery in attempts to avoid having to perform an open heart surgery but unfortunately the second attempt also failed.
Gabe has been fighting hard but the hardest part of his battle is coming up this week. He will be undergoing open heart surgery on his left ventrical. This surgery is known as Ross Konno Surgery. In this procedure the surgeons will attempt to replace his current aortic valve with his functioning pulmonary valve and replace that valve with an artificial valve as well as remove tissue blockage under his aortic valve. This is not a small procedure and the intricacy is amplified when preforming on a newborn.
Gabriel is going to need everyone’s thoughts, prayers and positivity going forward to be strong and recover through this procedure. This is going to be a long road for Gabriel, with needs in the future for an additional surgery known as Mitral Valvoplasty.
In this devastatingly emotional time for Steve and Alondra we would like to raise money to help alleviate any costs incurred and continue to support their family as both of them are unable to work for an unforeseen amount of time.
