What happens when your Emotional Support Animal gets sick?

Unfortunately, I have to find out.

My name is Lily and I have an Emotional Support Animal (ESA), a dog named Birdie, to help me with my disability.  (For more info on what an ESA is, see below.) The difference she has made in my life cannot be overstated. She helps me get through the most difficult times of my illness and makes those times more bearable.

Imagine my horror when on Saturday, January 23 Birdie started having difficulty walking. By Monday she couldn't walk at all and I had to take her to the hospital. I learned that she had a spinal condition that required surgery or she wouldn't walk again and could possibly die.

The surgery and post-operative care costs $4500. I have $2500 but I need help with the remaining $2000.

Please consider helping me get surgery for Birdie. Helping Birdie will help me succeed in life despite my disability.

Please donate. Anything will help.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

I brought home Birdie from the hospital today! She's doing well, walking around in her wobbly way.

Thank you again to everyone who donated, shared this link, or reached out to me. It meant a lot to me to hear from you during this difficult time.
Birdie back to eating a bone. I got her a jacket to keep her warm now that her hair has been shaved off.

Birdie had her surgery Monday and is steadily getting better. She's already standing again and she wasn't able to do that this weekend.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed! The response has been overwhelming! I'm already half way there!

We have a 13 1/2 year old Tibbie who still looks and acts like a puppy. We think Tibbies are simply the best dogs and feel so lucky to have had her in our life all these years. We hope your little girl goes on to have a full recovery from her surgery is able to have a long, healthy life, too.
