"Mason" Short Film Funding

Donation protected
"Mason" is a short, narrative drama inspired by real events. The story takes place circa 1980 and although the exact location is unknown, it is set in the rust belt area.

Mason, the main character, is a gay farmer whose parents died from the PFOA water contamination, which wasn't prevalent at the time. Meanwhile, he is also dying from the water and his farm is in foreclosure. Because of Mason's sexuality, he has always been bullied and isolated, causing him to be lonely.

Charlotte, Mason's feisty neighbor, is the only friend he's ever had. She has always defended him, which stems from her feelings for him and the guilt she feels for him being the outcast. She is married to Earl, but is having an affair with the town's sheriff, Bucky.

He is the wealthiest character, owning some real estate in the next town. Bucky is trying to save Charlotte from her abusive husband and the water toxicity, by moving her into one of the houses. Charlotte refuses to move unless Mason can go too, which frustrates Bucky because of his unrequited love for her.

The entire story begins when Diego, a mysterious war vet, comes into town. Because Diego is Latino, he faces the consequences of racism and bigotry. Eventually Diego and Mason cross paths and form an unconventional companionship.

Mason will go to film festivals wordwide.

My goal is to reach  $8,000.  All of the funding we receive will go toward cast/crew salaries, travel time, hotel and food, as well as props, location, costumes and special equipment.

The Impact
This work is a relevant, compassionate and thoroughly engaging tale. It will capture everyone's heart.

Risks & Challenges

The biggest challenge we will face is weather. We have cast from NYC and if weather does not cooperate, we will need to add on more days, which in turn creates schedule conflicts and getting the cast back to location.
