3 Big Swims for 3 Great Charities
Donation protected
Hi. My name is Kristian O'Donovan. I'm a 37 year old, father of 5, living in the beautiful village of Glenbeigh on the Ring of Kerry, Ireland.
I will be completing three marathon swims in 2017 and have decided to do this for 3 wonderful charities, all of which are very important to me for a number of reasons.
My first charity is Down Syndrome Kerry. My brother-in-law, Cathal Griffin who has Down Syndrome, has never let this get in his way and is a constant source of inspriation for me. This wonderful charity has played a huge part in his successes and the work they do for many families across the county is fantastic.
My second charity is Glow Hearts 4 Crumlin. This is a local charity that was started by mothers, all of whom had children born with a congenital heart defect (CHD). They formed the group to raise funds for Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin and to raise awareness of CHDs. My beautiful niece, Sadie, was born with a CHD and thanks to the great work of the nurses, doctors and surgeons in Crumlin she is fighting fit now.
My third charity is the Childhood Cancer Foundation. I don't think there is a family in Ireland that hasn't been affected by cancer. This charity funds research, play therapy and vital equipment used in St. John's paediatric cancer ward in Our Lady's Children's Hospital Crumlin - a most worthy cause for the most vunerable in our society.
Having researched the charities, read some of the stories and seen first hand what these children have to go through.....my three swims are nothing compared to that. However, I intend on raising as much as I can regardless of "fundraising targets".
Your support, monetary and morally, will be much appreciated.
ALL monies raised will go to the charities as I will be self-financing the flights, accommodation and entry fees.
The swims and dates are as follows:
Tampa Bay Marathon Swim (24 miles): 17th March 2017
Catalina Island (21 miles): 1st-2nd June 2017
20 Bridges Swim, New York (28 miles): 24th June 2017
Yours swimmingly
Kristian
