Steven & Cami's Medical Needs

Donation protected

My name is Elaine Bond. Seven years ago, I had the privilege of meeting Steven Skeen at a church in British Columbia where I was brought in to offer three different trainings - Home with a Heart, Let’s Get Organized and A Time to Heal.

Steven was a pastor on staff, and he supported me with everything I needed for such diverse trainings - from set up, sound, lighting, meeting leaders, faciltiing single moms - really making everything run like clockwork for a week.  It didn't take me long to see his heart to serve and deep love for people.

But now Steven and his family need support – a lot of support. Here is a bit of the story.

After my trainings were over, the senior pastor asked me to meet one-on-one with Steven’s lovely wife Cami, who is sick with a disease since childhood. They have two young boys. I have stayed in touch with the family, as a mentor to Cami, and now friend of the family.

In 2011 they decided to move back to Houston, Steven’s hometown. When leaving his previous employment in Canada, Steven was pressured to sign a document that would leave him unable to receive any of his benefits for disability. At that time of signing, he was undergoing some medical tests.   Perhaps, the organization saw what was ahead – what Steven was yet unaware of.

Steven was diagnosed shortly after with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis just before leaving Canada.

The disease has progressed very, very rapidly.

Steven has been trying to run a business in Houston, which he started prior to the move to Canada. Although he has done his best, while dragging his legs in extreme pain, he is unable to earn a living through it without some new medical and work equipment that would keep him mobile without using his legs.

Recently, he took a big fall and hit his head on concrete. His health took a sudden drastic decline that has left the whole family devastated in many ways because they don't know what to do next. Cami, even in her fragile state, then was out working in the middle of the nights on the machinery and coming home taking care of the family.

When I asked Steven to share what a day is like for him now, he said,

"The simple tasks taken for granted are gone – like just tying my shoes. Daily, I am exhausted; the pain is excruciating. There is so much pressure in my head and confusion that after doing one thing, I can't often do anything else and need to go back to bed. All my energy is drained.”

Steven, Cami, Graham and Evan need help right away with both medical and housing expenses. They have found a special therapy in Houston for MS that offers equipment to keep Steven mobile, which would help him to work. As well, they need an accessible place to live.

Please, can we support them now with a Go Fund Me project. Any amount to help them through this tough time is tremendously appreciated.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

God Bless,
Elaine Bond
