We found out that mom had cancer in March of 2015.  She underwent surgery to try and remove all of the cancerous cells; several pounds of cancer were removed from her and initial scans revealed nothing "barring any possible microscopic cells."  We were hopeful that after her 4 week recovery period, should could enter a minor chemo regiment and knockout any microscopic stuff.  However, at the end of her recovery period, it was revealed that the cancer had grown to the same size it was before the surgery, in just 4 weeks!

Surgery was no longer an option, and mom entered into chemo immediately.

The chemo was intense, 8 sessions, with some of the sessions lasting 5 straight days of 8+ hours a day.  A full time job of chemo!

Mom stayed strong and by the 5th and 6th session all results were positive.  Mom was just about her old self!  I remember the family playing frisbee in the front yard in late summer, and I remember hoping the moment would never end.  Seeing mom out and having fun was something I will cherish forever.

After the 7th session I asked mom how she was doing and she said she could feel the masses again in her abdomin.  I didn't say anything, but my stomach sank, thinking that is was possible that the chemo was no longer working.

Her 8th session was the week of November 29th.  After her 8th and final session, the scans revealed what we feared, that the cancer had developed an immunity to the chemo.

She had opted to reenter into chemo, but the cancer was progressing too fast.  On Christmas Mom was admitted to the hospital with severe abdominal pain.

It was happening too fast.

We were blessed to have mom back home on New Year's Eve, when she entered into at-home hospice care.  She had a lot of fun on New Year's Eve, and she enjoyed having family around.  Myself and the entire family are thankful to have been able to spend these last couple weeks at home with her.
