Craig Peterson's Battle

My father has been a life long resident of Fairview, Nj and also has been a life long member of Grandview Fire Department for over 42 years. He has given his life to this town in more ways than one. I always remembered when I was a kid the radio going off and out the door my father went in all hours of the night in all weather conditions to help someone who was in need. Wether it be from the basic food on the stove all the way to a multi structural fire with 10 plus engines on scene. To the additional duties he held as a firefighter he also worked a full time job. This company he gave all he had, never called out just cause he wanted to stay home for the night, or just cause he hated his job. He always said what a great place it was even if it was a "Shit hole" He always came home since I was a little boy and told me stories about the great guys at work. Than I had the privilege to work out there for a couple months when I was in college. This is one of the hardest things I have ever written, most who know me know I always help others, and never ask for anything in return. I always help and never need help. I also learned my work ethic I have from my father and I thank him for that everyday. He was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer in November 2016. I have seen my father go from the strong always on the go man to being very weak and tired loosing a tremendous amount of weight. This evil disease has taken so much from him and he is still fighting it each day, one step at a time. I am not one to ask for hand-outs or freebies. He is not of Medicare age and the bills just keep coming in day after day. I am trying my hardest to pay whatever it is he needs. I will work till I pass-out to give him the care he needs to beat this horrible disease they called CANCER. My family and I have been on this nightmare journey for almost a year now. As we are constantly reminded by numerous people how young he is, each time I here that it rips me apart, knowing the life and vision my parents had imagined being destroyed by cancer. Days before my wedding his doctors recommended he be placed in hospice. Thank god thru all this, he was able to make it to the wedding and see his only son get married to a person I know he loves and has shared countless laughs and great time with the past 6 years. Thru this nightmare he was able to see the little sliver of light, making it to my wedding standing tall, fighting every minute to be there for a year. He made it, showing if you want something in life nothing will stand in your way not even this. He is a fighter and I will always remember that, and so will everyone that knows him. I am asking to just give whatever little amount you can. Send him best wishes, just do whatever positive thing you can do. Pray to whoever you pray and please keep us in your prays during this time. Thank you
