SUM: We are a long-standing non-profit that through the years has sought to encourage dialogue across faiths and cultures, so as to promote peace and justice in the world, in a variety of ways. We are in the midst of a visioning process this year to help take this mission to the next level.  We are looking to expand our donor base, and to provide more information in the coming months about the exciting directions we want to take.

If you would like to donate to us, and to our future, your financial contribution of any amount will go a long way in helping us expand our vision for how we might contribute to a more shalom-filled world.

If you've fallen in love with the Center already, please read on! If you are interested in more information, you're encouraged to go to http://walkerctr.org, or to our Facebook page or Twitter, to get a better sense of who we currently are, and who we're aspiring to be!

Over the past 147 years, the Walker Center has forged ahead, often in spite of challenging and even scary times, offering hospitality and hope all along the way. We in fact have just concluded a national election in the U.S. that, for many of us, once again raises many questions and uncertainties about the future, particularly for those among us with non-U.S. majority religious, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.

It seems fitting, then, that the Walker Center should enter into a critical year of its own, at such a time as this. Our long-standing-yet-evolving mission to encourage dialogue across faiths and cultures, so as to promote peace and justice in the world, could not be more relevant or necessary.

Today among the many things we do, we continue to host affordable conferences and retreats for nonprofits promoting peace and justice, as well as serve as a residential community for graduate students in theology/religion who are committed to peace and justice.

But we believe that this is only the beginning, and with your help, we aim to take the vision of Walker Center another step forward in 2017.

In such a time as this, how will we continue to respond to the needs of faith communities, non-profits, students, and the common good? One possibility we are exploring is establishing an on-campus institute to resource faith leaders to do ministry in an interfaith, interconnected world. Compassionate, creative and intelligent leadership will be absolutely essential in the future for building bridges and promoting shalom, in communities around the globe, not to mention here in the United States.

Some other goals for the coming year include:

Networking with other relevant organizations to explore the possibility of future partnerships

Providing a subsidized program/retreat for the community, aimed at promoting connection, creativity, community, and justice

Hosting student resident-led interfaith-related workshops and events open to the public

Hosting monthly interfaith worship services open to the community and public (these will be led by the CCP chaplains)

Raising funds for scholarships, for groups and for resident students with financial need

Updating our campus wireless network to better serve our students and academic partners

And yes, of course, the less-fun, but always-necessary, work of maintaining our historic 2.2 acre property! This year we’re looking to restore one house’s gutters, repair the porches in Walker House (so they can be used again!), and begin to improve the ground floor entrance, among other projects. We also want to continue updating our amenities, beds, paint and carpeting in our guest accommodations, as well as in student housing.

With your help, we can accomplish these goals in 2017! In spite of many challenges, both here as well as in the world at-large, we are convinced that the Walker Center is entering into one of its most hopeful phases of its history as we continue to work toward justice and peace for all people. If this year you are able to financially contribute, or help in some other way, we would be truly grateful.
