My Best Friend Needs Help

Donation protected
There's no better place to start than the beginning. I remember it like it was yesterday, May 11th 2013 I had a random idea to go to Fairfax county animal shelter "just to look". I had no plans to take any dog home, I was really just trying to do something different on this random Saturday. As I walked through The shelter I heard sooo may dogs barking which broke my heart. But one particular bark stood out so much to me I had to go take a peak. As I turned the corner I saw Coco.

As soon as I got to his cage he immediately stopped barking and pressed his body to the door wanting me to pet him, which I couldn't stop doing. The look on his face was sweet but sad, I then tried to continue to look around and the second I walked away from Coco the howling began, and it stopped as soon as I returned. I was overcome with this feeling that I couldn't leave without him. So I didn't. As his new owner I found out I was going to be his 3rd home, Coco had been given up twice and had been in 4 different shelters in his 6 1/2 years. After we left i promised him that this was going to be his last trip home from a shelter and that I was going to be his forever home. The last 3 1/2 years have been some of the best years of my life. He's become my best friend and I'd like to think I have become his. As I have helped him grow, he has helped me just the same.

Fast forward to Thanksgiving of this year, normally one of my all time favorite holidays. I came home from spending the day with my family and upon walking coco I found something that terrified me (I'll spare you all the gross details) but I had to rush Coco to the emergency vet that night. After a series of tests it was determined that Coco has a tumor the size of a large walnut in his rectum. The doctor told me that he needs to have a board certified veterinary surgeon remove the mass as soon as possible, to then determine if that will resolve his condition or to see what his next course of action will be. My heart was absolutely broken. And hearing that this was going to cost about $5,000 ... they might as well have told me it was going to cost 5 million. My heart broke for my best friend because I'd never want him to ever be in any pain or have to go through anything like this.

Deciding to make this page wasn't easy for me, but I wanted to try because I realized that without help I won't be able to afford his surgery. I know that money is tight for everyone, especially around the holidays, but if you could find it in your heart to please help us no matter how large or small (anything will help!) than I'd be forever grateful. And even if you're unable to assist monetarily I'd greatly appreciate your help by sharing this page with others.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story and for any help you may be able to give.Love Amy & Coco❤️
