Home Studio Flood Disaster Recovery
My name is Nicole Placco and I am a long time friend of Marci Geller and her husband, Gian DiMauro. You may be aware by now of a recent disaster where a flash flood destroyed their home recording studio.
Marci is the kindest and most considerate person you may have ever encountered. She sings of peace, and lives with love. She is consistently the first to help and encourage others out of the goodness of her heart, along with her husband Gian, who is an endlessly generous and compassionate human.
There is substantial damage to the exterior of the home, the interior studio itself is completely devastated, and music equipment lost. There will be thousands of dollars in work that needs to be done to repair and prevent future damage. The costs are staggering well over $10,000, which is coming out of pocket for Marci and Gian, since they are unsure if it's covered by insurance. They need immediate assistance because of this. Any donation you give will go directly to Marci and Gian for disaster repair and music equipment recovery.
This isn't just a music studio. This is Marci Geller's life, her work, her art, her history and her livelihood. This is where she pours all of her emotions into song for us to experience and feel.
Let's help get the studio rebuilt.
Hi Everyone (Marci and Gian here),
We are guessing this should be called the “waiting period” in our journey. Insurance inspector came down this past Friday and took pictures of all the damage to submit to the claims adjuster. He told us we should hear something back by Monday...and well...it’s Wednesday afternoon and not a word yet.
• Exterior entrance where the rain got in has been completely demolitioned down to the dirt. Praying it doesn’t rain before the contractor rebuilds.
• Waiting on contractor to now rebuild the exterior entrance.
• We catalogued all of the damaged items and are now ready to dispose. It’s still hard to throw out our history, but at least we have photos to remind us of what we’ve created and accomplished.
• Many family members, friends and total strangers have been extraordinarily generous, and we are so humbled and thankful.
• We’re waiting on a landscape engineer to fit us into his schedule and come down and further assess the property and advise where we need to make safety adjustments. (who knew such a person even existed?)
Other than that, we’re trying to be as “normal” as possible around here. Thank you all from our entire hearts for your kindness and continued well wishes.
Marci & Gian
Marci and Gian here. We apologize for taking so long to write. The last few days have been a tremendously crazy time for us. We were just saying to each other that we can't believe this all happened just four days ago. It feels like we've been cleaning up and recovering for a month.
That said, we found out our dear friend Nicole started this "GoFundMe" fund raiser on our behalf - we were incredibly touched, but we fully expected to hear from our insurance company that we were covered and could thank everyone, shut it down and get on with the restoration.
As many of you know, the insurance company has told us we are NOT covered. We want you to know-we are not done fighting. It is our wish that we can win our insurance claim, and refund every penny that has been raised back through gofundme.
That said, it is hard for us to even begin to express our gratitude. The level of kindness, generosity and love is so amazing. We are flabbergasted and humbled.
Please know that we are so thankful for you all - including the "anonymous" donors. We want to hug and thank each of you personally. That may not be possible at the moment, but please know that just knowing how supported we are has given us such strength to deal with every day's work, decisions and losses.
We love you all, and feel so very loved back.
Marci & Gian
