Who heals the healers?

Andy Jensen and his family have touched and healed the hearts of countless people for generations.  If we could collect the stories of each act of kindness, each demonstration of love, each challenge overcome, and each broken heart mended, they would fill volumes.

Often, however, those who learn the art of healing do so because they, too, have expeinced great afflictions, including chronic challenges with physical and mental health. Reaching out and lifting the burdens of others is good medicine for both sides, but it does not erase the challenges.

A few years ago, Andy Jensen's family was struck with tragedy when his sister's struggles with some mental health challenges resulted in her death. Such a loss weighs heavily upon any family, but even more so on a family of healers who have helped save countless others from similar tragedies. To have saved so many others but lost one of their own is a difficult irony to live with. That loss alone would leave most families on the ropes.

Unfortunately, lightning has struck the same place twice. On August 25th, 2016 Andy's life ended due to his own struggles with some difficult mental health challenges. To lose two family members in this way in just a handful of years has taken a toll on his family that we can only empathize with and try to imagine, but can never fully understand.

At times like this, it is very challenging to know what to say or do, for fear that we might do the wrong thing. We cannot undo what has happened. But, we can rally with love around Andy's family. We can help them with the financial burden of funeral expenses. We can also help to raise funds for those members of the family who are now struggling and need to seek help and healing of their own.

Please join us in showing love for Andy and his family and grattitude for the enormous amount of good they do for other people by helping his family the way they have so selflessly served others.

The funds from this GoFundMe campaign will go towards covering funeral expenses for Andy, and any remaining amount will be used to help any family members who feel the need to seek therapy to work through the emotional burdens of yet another loss in their family. Now is a time for us all to give back. We cannot undo the hurt, but we can help create a path to healing.

Even small donations will help. Even simply sharing the link to this GoFundMe campaign will help. Since Andy's funeral will be soon, we need to help generate these funds quickly. The need, however, will be ongoing, as we anticipate some of his family members will need to avail themselves of professional help to work through this intense loss.

It is also our hope that this GoFundMe campaign will serve as a catalyst for important conversations. When people die from things like cancer or heart disease, it is easy for people to be supportive. and the surviors are usually surrounded by those seeking to offer comfort and empathy. But, when people die because of mental health issues, their families are often met with stigma, judgment, and blame, which only compounds the trauma of such a loss. Conversation by conversation, one person at a time, we can help build understanding and compassion about this issue.

So, I ask the question again: who heals the healers? The answer is ordinary people. Will you join us? Will you be one of them?
