[PLEASE CHECK UPDATES OF THIS CAMPAIGN TO GET UPDATED ON THE PROGRESS]

My name is Christa Sanders and I am an American living in Accra, Ghana for the last 12 years. I work in the field of international education and have been taking students, faculty and staff to different parts of Ghana during this period. One place that has been especially wonderful to visit is northern Ghana, one of the poorest regions in the country. Those who have accompanied me up north to the city of Tamale (A 12-hour bus ride from the capital Accra) have also had the opportunity to meet Dr. David Abdulai, an amazing doctor who has dedicated his life to serving the poor.  Dr. Abdulai runs 2 free health clinics in the region and serves a variety of populations including the mentally ill, HIV positive, homeless, etc.  He is the only survivor of 11 children (all of whom died from poverty related illnesses) and had the opportunity to be educated; eventually finishing medical school with the assistance of the catholic church.  Although he initially worked in government hospitals, he always realized the great need to return home to Tamale and provide medical assistance to the poor. He eventually returned, building 2 clinics and has seen thousands of patients since the 90’s.  He furthermore established a “Meals on Wheels" program that has fed up to 100-150 people per day for over 20 years. All of this has been done through donations and he has never taken a salary for any of his outreach efforts.

Dr. Abdulai is a remarkable individual and an inspiration to me and countless others. Unfortunately, this past May he was diagnosed with stage-4 thyroid cancer which is quite aggressive and spreading as each day goes by. He is in dire need of radiation therapy, which is not offered in Tamale or many other parts of the country. This type of therapy could save his life and, given the many lives he has saved, I am raising money for his medical treatment and the continued operation of his clinics. All money raised on this platform will be chiefly used for this purpose.

These funds are needed immediately given the current spread of his cancer. Ideally, I would like to raise this money within the next 2 weeks as his condition has become quite severe and urgent medical care is required. After initial treatment in Ghana, it would also be important for him to receive follow up care abroad as the medical services in Ghana are very limited. Time is of the essence here so the faster these funds can be raised we can, together, hopefully, help save this incredible doctor’s life. He has done so much for others and now I believe it is the time for others to help him in his greatest time of need.

Dr. Abdulai means so much to so many. He has been my personal mentor and inspiration the last 12 years and I would do anything to help him hence this campaign to raise funds towards his treatment and recovery.  Furthermore, his clinics must continue to operate as not only do his patients need him but also the world needs more people like Dr. Abdulai- selfless, giving and committed to serving the underserved.

I would be so appreciative of any contribution made here and promise it will go to the most worthy cause- saving the life of one who has dedicated his life to saving the lives of the less fortunate. His wife, children, family, friends and the many patients he has served will be eternally grateful for anything that can be done.

Thank you for your support... It means more than you know.
