 LOS OSOS, CA
For those of you that are not aware of the horrific accident yesterday, August 3, 2016, our dear friend, Doug MacDonald was involved in a head on vehicle accident on Los Osos Valley Road and Foothill Blvd in San Luis Obispo, Ca.  His work van was completely demolished. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, after being stabilized at our local hospital, Doug was airlifted to Stanford Medical Center where he has undergone one of many surgeries to come.  He had massive injuries to his lower extremities among other injuries and while working through the night last night, the doctors were able to save his legs. Doug will be in ICU for at least a few weeks. We have no idea how long his recovery will take or what other complications may still arise. It will be a long road to recovery but we feel so fortunate that Doug is still with us. Jethro, Doug’s ever present hound dog copilot was not in the van and is safe and sound!

Liam, his 12-year-old son, Carlene, his 18-year-old daughter, and Krista are on the road to be by his side at Stanford Medical Center in the Bay Area.

As most of you know, Doug has been a successful self-employed painter for 28 years.  He has three employees; Andrew, D.J. and Fidel.

Doug has given of his time to the community for many years as a Little League baseball coach.  He loves his community and is always there to help out whenever needed.  This donation page is an incredible way for our friends and family to help the MacDonald family in their time of need.  We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any help that you could provide to this good family.  We will do our best to update you all as often as possible on Doug’s progress.

Please feel free to share this page with your friends and family, it would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Marie, Jim and Mitchell Neumann

Hello to all my family, friends, clients, and total strangers,
I am sitting here in Los Osos looking at the most beautiful rainbow; another reminder of how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful world.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
I want everyone to know that I am feeling much better.
I am in the process of learning to walk again; it was much easier to learn the first time.
I was so humbled and touched by all the prayers, good wishes, support, and donations you have given to me and my family. All that LOVE I received reminded me how much I have to live for; and motivates me to work hard during this healing process.
The success of the gofundme account took me by surprise; it has enabled me and my family to “weather the storm” and make ends meet. Thank you to everyone who donated.
I would like to thank my family for their patience, love, and support. Like my father said, “that is what family is for”.
I look forward to seeing everyone,
I am sincerely thankful,
Douglas Mac Donald
P.S. Is it baseball season yet?

As I write this post my belly is full with a healthy, home cooked meal prepared by my dear friend Marie Neumann. Thank you so much for the much needed nutrition. I'm gonna sleep well tonight!!
Doug and I are more than thankful for everyone's prayers, donations, hugs, kind words and now some meals. Los Osos has wrapped its arms around us and we feel comforted knowing you are here. It's hard to accept help but in times like this...we are forever grateful.
So an update on our dear friend Doug. He is progressing quickly and still remains in Stanford Hospital. Stanford is amazing!! They have a team for everything, so grateful they are close to family and friends. We hope to have him released soon, moving on to an Acute Rehab Center for a short stay. He will remain up North with his family for more rehabilitation and strength from his loved ones. We hope to see him soon but nothing for sure at this time.
Doug has a long journey ahead of him but he is in good spirits and remains positive. WE LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!

Hello everyone, I have had several people ask if there are other ways they can help Doug and Krista and the answer is YES :). Once the family is home and we know their needs, I will set up a few schedules that anyone can participate in. Here is what I have in mind, please feel free to chime in if there is something you would like to add or think we have missed:

1) I will set up a Meal Train for a month or two
2) Exercise Jethro, the hound
3) Weed the yard and water
4) Every two weeks or so clean the house

If you are interested please send me your name, phone number and email address. When the time comes I will contact you.

Krista's update: Doug did incredibly well for being in surgery yesterday for at least 8 to 9 hours. There was more internal injury than we thought once the doctor's got into his upper body for exploratroy surgery. They removed his spleen and his pancreas has been damaged as well. They aren't concerned too much with the pancreas, they are watching very closely. He has been kept sedated all night to allow him to rest without movement or pain. As far as his extremities, he will lose his right foot up to his calf. The surgery will not happen for a couple of days. The doctor's feel that they could not repair it without causing more pain and suffering down the road, so this is a better option. His left knee is repairable but not sure if all surgery is finished there. Doug is aware that he may lose his foot and was in agreement with the decision. I think he knew already in his heart given the damage he could see at the accident. I am heading to the hospital later today and will give more updates. I love you all, thank you for your help and support.
Krista, Carlene and Liam.

Thank you for the update - you have all been on my mind. Lots of us want to help. When I was diagnosed with cancer all those years ago, a wise friend said "Let people help you". It is hard to do, but it brings a whole community together and will help you get the rest you need for this journey. Love you!

Thinking about you brother. Hopefully we can connect soon. It's been a strange one for many people. I broke my pelvis and sacrum on the mountain this year and almost froze to death waiting in the snow for 5 hours for rescue. It took a while to fight back but I'm dancing once again and so will you. Love you Doug. Take care buddy.
