Remembering Baby Avery

Donation protected
This year started out amazing for one of my dearest friends Brandy Goble - on January 16th, she married a wonderful man by the name of Justin Cooper.  Just 3 months later, the newly married Mr. & Mrs. Cooper announced that they were pregnant and expecting the arrival of a beautiful baby girl on November 28th, 2016.  There was nothing but excitement in the air as Brandy had always wanted to be a mom, and her and Justin were going to be amazing parents.  It wasn't until August 24th that things took a turn for the worse.

Brandy was diagnosed with preeclampsia and hospitalized at 26-weeks into her pregnancy.  Her and Justin were told that she needed to be confined to bedrest and would have to remain in the hospital for the duration of her pregnancy.  Brandy strictly followed her doctors orders; however, due to fetal growth restriction, the doctors made the decision to deliver her baby 10-weeks prior to her actual due date - Tuesday, September 20th she was born!

Weighing just 1lb 14oz and given the beautiful name of Avery Drew Cooper, she had arrived and Justin and Brandy were in love with her.  Avery was born with a headful of beautiful blonde hair and an incredible will to fight.  Little Avery was taken to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where she began her struggle to survive,  while Brandy was taken away from her to a hospital room to recover from her C-Section.  Brandy and Justin spent every moment they could with her in the NICU along with extended family; however, a few days later Brandy was discharged from the hospital and her and Justin had to return home without their precious Avery.

For the next 4 weeks Justin and Brandy traveled to and from the hospital every single day, spending hours in their car, not wanting to be separated from their little girl.  At first, everything was going in a positive direction.  Avery began breathing on her own, they had removed her IV - PICC line and she was now getting breastmilk rather than IV nutrition.  Although it was heartwrenching for them to watch all the needles and procedures taking place, it appeared as though things were going quite well.  At 23-days old (GoFundMe picture) Avery was fighting hard, weighing in at 2lbs 10oz and filling the hearts of everyone around her.  At 26-days old, just 3-days later, things quickly went downhill and baby Cooper was fighting for her life.

She developed a urinary tract infection, and was also diagnosed with NEC (Necrotizing Enteric Colitis).  They had to intubate, put her back on IV nutrition and begin antibiotics for 10-days in order to try and fight off the infections.  In the early morning hours of October 18th, just 2 days later, her health further declined and the doctors deemed that emergency surgery was the only option they had to save her.  At just 28-days old, surrounded by her mom, dad, grandparents and other family members, Avery was unable to fight anymore. The surgery proved to be just too much for this precious litte girl - so she departed our lives and our world to make the journey to her eternal home with God.

Brandy and Justin's lives will never be the same, for there is a void in their heart that will always remain.  No parent should ever have to go through the grief of losing a child, and for this I am asking for your help.  You cannot take away their pain, but you can help with the financial burdens they have endured  through this painful process.  There is no dollar amount too small as every penny helps and is appreciated more than you will ever know.  Brandy and Justin need time to grieve and should not be thinking about how they are going to pay for 2 months worth of medical/hospitalization bills , funeral expenses, unpaid bills due to Brandy's extended hospitalization, and Justin's time off from work, etc..  I will be forever grateful for anything you can do to help them during this unimaginable time.

For those of you able to attend, services for Avery will be held this Sunday October 23rd, 2016 at 11am at;

Lankford Funeral Home
220 E. New York Ave.
Deland, FL 32724.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation here to help get Brandy and Justin back on their feet, and through this terrible time.  From the bottom of my heart I thank you for your love and support of two of the best people that I know and please keep them in your prayers.  Avery Drew Cooper will be Forever Loved, and Never Forgotten!  Until we meet again, we all have a beautiful angel looking down on us from above!   God Bless all of you for your love and generosity xoxo
