Medicine For Mom

As most of you don’t know, my Mom (Joan Montross Mobley) has been battling stage 3-C Ovarian Cancer since July, 2014. She asked my family and me not to advertise, because she didn’t want the attention and stigma related to being a “cancer patient”. Recent changes in her condition have made in necessary to go public and ask for your help.

Starting in August, she went through the hell of chemotherapy, a total hysterectomy, loss of her job, baldness, and the mental agony of a diagnosis with a 39% survival rate. The doctor told her only 4/10 people were able to complete the very intense chemotherapy regimen that he prescribed…he didn’t know my Mom.

In December, 2014 she completed the treatment and, while her CA125 levels were back in normal range, she was left with a 1cm spot on her omentum (peritoneum connecting the stomach with other abdominal organs). She decided to continue her plant based diet, supplements, and daily juicing and monitor the spot.

In January, 2016, a CT scan reviled the spot on her omentum had grown from 1 cm to 1 ½ cm, in two months. In addition, the oncologist found a 3cm tumor on her bladder and several nodules on her colon.

The Chemotherapy left my mom with painful neuropathy, and large gray spots clouding her vision. The threat of losing her eyesight and poisoning her body further, is unbearable. There are amazing new advances in cancer treatment, including viral therapy, that creates a virus that attacks cancer cells, and protein therapies, that destroy the cell lining of the cancer cell and destroy it.

She has attempted to get into clinical trials for these therapies, but unfortunately, her cancer had bad timing. The clinical studies are either closed or not studying ovarian cancer. Clinical trials are extremely specific on what patients they accept.

The good news is; these treatments are further along in other countries. My Mom does not have time to wait for new clinical trials, or the understandably long process of FDA approval. Her cancer is spreading rapidly and she is willing to do whatever is needed to fight. She has located a treatment center that offers a combination of Viral Therapy (Rigvir) and Protein Therapy (PNC-27). The Hope 4 Cancer Center has experience with my Mom’s type of Cancer and reports 60% of patients treated for Ovarian Cancer, are Cancer Free after two years. That is outstanding, for this very serious type of cancer. Unfortunately, the cost of the treatment is not yet covered by my Mom’s insurance.

My parents have made a living through service and thrift and cannot possibly pay out of pocket for the treatment. My Dad is a Preacher and my Mom worked part time as she raised three kids, cared for her Mother-in-law, nephew, and various other family members and friends who needed assistance. I can’t remember a time, growing up, when my parents weren’t helping others.

Through the chemotherapy, my Mom was showered with prayers, thoughts, calls, and supportive information on various treatment ideas. My Mom, her Oncologist, my family, her close friends, and I have poured over the research and treatment options. We believe that this treatment is the best option for her circumstance and survival. Please help me make this treatment possible for my Mom.

I know you work hard to earn a living and we all do our best to spend our money wisely. Please do not underestimate the value of a small donation. Every dollar counts and puts my Mom closer to health. I greatly appreciate your willingness to help and support my Mom and our family. Thank you!
