Kitty Cove Adult Cat Rooms

Donation protected
There is a saying “No good deed goes unpunished”. Unfortunately, all of us at Long Beach Humane Society, namely our kittens & cats awaiting adoption, are feeling the effects of that saying. Long Beach Humane Society prides ourselves in our long-standing policy of accepting back the kittens & cats we have previously adopted. In the last 6-months we have accepted over 12 adults back into Kitty Cove that were adopted out as far back as 12-years ago.

Imagine being in the comfort of a home most of your life, sleeping in a bed, rolling on carpet filled with the warmth of sunlight,  viewing the outside from a window perch and then suddenly you are in a strange environment with up to 50 other felines. From our experience, adult cats do not do well in a shelter environment. We can provide food, bedding, vet care and all the love they need but the adjustment is really rough on adult cats.  The returned adults become listless, depressed, stop eating and eventually develop illness.

We are fortunate that Kitty Cove, our shelter, has a back room that is large enough to create divisional rooms. Our vision is to create two rooms within a room for the sole purpose of providing a comfortable free space for the adults and older kittens that are returned. We want them cage-free and in a peaceful setting for them to recover from their often stressful return to us. Our sketch includes windows providing natural light, sliding doors to enclose the area, proper ventilation to ensure good health, perches, toys and of course, fluffy comfortable bedding.

We cannot provide the space necessary for these adults that are often depressed and confused without your help. Please open your heart to these adult cats that were once adopted and believed that they were already living in their forever homes but were returned.  All amounts are truly appreciated and helpful.  We would like to begin the construction by the 1st of this year.

Long Beach Humane Society is a 501 (c3) feline rescue organization that has been established since 1976. Our primary mission is to rescue felines that have been abandoned and save those that are awaiting euthanasia in kill shelters.  We rely on our supporters and compassionate animal lovers for our survival and the well-being of our rescues.
