PREVIOUSLY:
Carlos is the love of my life and he is very ill with a rare form of cancer called Double Hit Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma
This began with a journey to the hospital on Sept. 17th thinking he simply had  a chest cold that was making him cough with left side pain and it was making his Afib act up.  A visit to the ER ended up as an inpatient stay with antibiotics for pneumonia and heart meds. A day later and the antibiotics were stopped and we were told he had an enlarged spleen that was pressing on his lungs, so no pneumonia. Carlos was in terrible pain and he was receiving fentanyl, Tests were ordered, doctors were concerned and chaos ensued. Finally after a few days the doctors came back with unexpected news that he had a form of B-Cell Lymphoma which was enlarging his spleen.  This was unwelcome news to say the least.
Carlos had begun to lose weight back in June.  I knew something was amiss but he felt it was just his heart and possbily Hep C, as well as his age.  He then began getting fevers and terrible night sweats at the end of August. This led to the side pain and severe Afib with high blood pressure.  It all  made sense now but we were devasted and waited on the news of what type of cancer. He spent several more days in the hospital to get stablized because his heart was reacting to the cancer and pain.
Finally Carlos was able to come home, after a week of being a pin cushion and feeling awful he was home to begin his journey fighting this cancer.  First thing we did was research, read and followed the advice to began juicing veggies and fruits and staying away from solid food as well as purchase select vitimins and herbs that aimed to help build his immune system and cleanse his system.  The spleen is the immune system power house and it needed nurishment. We quickly found out that juicing is extremely expensive, but we have seen definate results. Carlos is able to take less pain pills daily and is now able to engage in more activities due to the lessening of Inflammation.  We have juiced for two weeks now and  barely have enough money for the rest of the week.  It is an expensive treatment, fresh whole raw foods, but one that is absolutely necessary if he wants to get threw chemo with any vitality.
At our first oncology appointment on Oct. 7th.  There we were told Carlos has this rare form of cancer called Double Hit Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma.  The cancer has a double gene expression showing two forms of cancer at once.  This diagnosis along with his coexisiting conditions make him a canidate to be treated in Pittsburgh, PA at the Hillman Cancer Center and the Mario Lemieux Blood Cancer Center. Our oncologist states his case is extremely diffucult and tricky due to his coexsisting conditions. They want to do chemo as well as a stem cell transplant.   His first appointment is early this week and the trip is about an hour and a half away.   We have researched this center and how they normally treat this particular disease and discovered we will have to spend a lot of time in Pittsburgh without returning home.   Stem cell transplants alone can take up to one month. His Chemo will be very intensive and will require extra care due to his other health conditions.  We most likely will have to stay at what they call Family House, a place that provides an affordable "home away from home" for patients and their families who are seeking medical treatment at Pittsburgh-area hospitals. They charge about $65 a night and I see many nights there in our future.  Plus I will have to make trips back and forth to care for my apartment and check on my two younger children. We also want to continue providing him with at least 4 glasses of raw fresh juice a day. All of this is out of our financial reach.
Truth be told, Carlos just retired and qualified for Social Security Disability around $1000 a month due to his Hypotrophic Cardiomyopothy with left ventricular 40% ejection fraction and syptomatic Hepititis C. He just recieved his very first check this month while he was in the hospital.   We also care for a special needs daughter with an Intellecutal Disablity and have her minimal SSI income.  These two incomes cover our vehicale payment, insurance, rent, untilities and family  food, household needs and pet needs.  For anything else I am the sole provider for the family and I sell items online which takes a lot of time and effort to complete sales.  I will be unable to do this because Carlos will have to have a caretaker in the family house which is one of the requirements.
Due to this we are prayfully asking for help for those who will reach out and touch our lives to lessen our burden so we can focus on his treatment and wellness plan.   We are concerned how we will afford the travel costs, foods costs, accomodations and possibly even treatment. We still have to pass all this by our insurance company.  Carlos is amazed, touched and so very grateful, even moved to tears, when his facebook friends simply give him well wishes and prayers and I guarantee he will not have the proper words to express how grateful he would be for assistance during this trying time.  All he can give you back in return is his person, his music and his love.
Please help me help Carlos.  He frets and worries about the money and that will not help him heal.  I want to stay by his side to give him love and confidence and tender loving care that he needs.  I want to help him heal and have peace.  I want to see him focus on his four beautiful grandchildren and spend more time with his six children.
Carlos is a simple man.  When I ask him what he has been thinking about he tells me he just wants more time to love his grandbabies, create more music for the people and God and explore this amazing world with me by his side.
We will fover be in your debt and can only offer our music and love as payment for a good deed done.

Blessings, peace, light and love
