Mrs. and Mr. Joyce and Roger Alexander, residents in an apartment building managed by our company are an elderly couple that have been married for over 40 years. Their love is truly inspiring to all of those whose lives they've touched. In their own words, they ”love each other, and we care about each other.”
They are both legally blind and never leave each others' side; they are together while cooking, taking out the trash, cleaning, going about their daily lives...
The same was true a few days ago when they went to Chase Bank on Ashland in Chicago’s south side for their monthly pension in order to pay their bills. Their combined monthly income is around $1,600. After paying all their bills they are normally left with about $700 for food and other daily expenses. They barely make it from month to month. In fact, Mr. Alexander’s glasses broke last year and due to financial hardship he did not have the means to see a doctor for a new pair of glasses. They both move very slowly due to old age and disabilities.
Upon exiting the bank that day, a man and a woman approached them; they put a gun to Mrs. Joyce’s head and forced Mrs. and Mr. Alexander into a car. Mrs. and Mr. Alexander were driven into an alley near 69th and Ashland where they got robbed of their $1600 in addition to their walker and pull-cart. The beasts who did this do not deserve to be called human. The couple filed a police report, but the likelihood of recovering the money is very low, not to mention the emotional trauma and other damage that this has caused in their lives.
