Jaxs Fight Against Luekaemia

Donation protected
Just over three weeks ago baby Jax who is only 5 months old seemed unwell, Michael and Katie, Jax’s mum and dad just thought he was a little under the weather but after a couple of days they felt they should take him to there GP as he quickly became very pale, pretty much white. The doctor gave him a check over and told them and quickly decided we need to get Jax to hospital and called an ambulance. On arrival at Doncaster Royal Infirmary Jax's condition seemed to be worsening as the minutes passed and he was taken into resus as he was deteriorating so quickly. The doctors initially thought he had a major bowel issue as they could feel a sausauge shaped lump in his stomach. At this point the doctors tried to take some of Jax's blood but they couldn't get a vein, his veins were collapsing and his body was shutting down. Michael, Katie, Nanna and Grandad were now standing helpless as a team tried to save Jax's life, the family were basically losing baby Jax in front of their eyes. It became apparent they needed to get blood into Jax rather than out as somewhere it was thought he must be bleeding internally. They had to put a canular into Jax's head they were so desperate. It was now decided Jax needed to be rushed to Sheffield Childrens hospital and needed a blood transfusion en route in the ambulance, blue lights all the way !

Katie went in the ambulance while Michael and Katies mum followed in his car, he was told by the ambulance crew "do not try to keep up with us" Jax’s other grandparents stayed in Doncaster to look after Lacey Rose, Jax's almost 3 year old sister and await news.

A few hours later the dreadful news came. Michael rang his Dad he was in bits on the phone to ask if he could come to Sheffield and told him "Dad they think Jax has cancer, they're saying it's most likely leukemia" The next day this was confirmed, the full diagnosis being, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia the cancer specialist told the family that Jax's bones were "wall to wall leukemia cells" there were no healthy cells that they could see under a powerful microscope. Speciaists have said the chances of a 5 month old baby having leukemia was very rare and around 10 babies of Jax's age have Leukemia in a year in the UK. Odds of over 1,000,000/1

Jax is definately going to need a bone marrow transplant, mum and dad could only be a 50% match at best, his best chance would be a sibling so Lacy Rose, his sister has had a blood test. A little good news in all of this nightmare is Lacey is a match, but of course that comes with no guarantees and Jax's leukaemia cell count would have to be zero before a transplant could take place. Jax has had a few chemotherapy sessions already so hopefully that will start to work and get the leukaemia cell count down to enable the much needed transplant. The doctors have said he's a fighter and the proof being is that he's still here fighting after that first horrific day and nearly losing him.

A lot has happened in the last few weeks as you can imagine. Michael and Katie have been pretty much resident at Sheffield Childrens hospital, Nanna and Grandad on both sides of the family on standby and making almost daily trips to Sheffield and helping look after Lacey Rose. Jax will be allowed home for short periods of time but will be making regular frequent visits to hospital every week for the forseable future with many overnight stays.

This is a young family who should have a bright future ahead of them but now they have a long hard journey ahead, and to be coping with this is a testament to the love they have for each other. Kind donations no matter how small will help support the large expenses involved. Things like travel expenses, time off work, extra child care costs if necessary, general day to day living when spells in hospital are required. Christmas is also just around the corner and although this would be the least of their worries it would be nice if it could be made a little easier.

Thank you for taking a few minutes in reading this page, love to all.
