Mentoring Youth through the Arts

Tax deductible
Alma. Seriously. Rocks!

Let's pitch in and support Alma Catalán with her final year of tuition towards her Masters in Art Management at Claremont Graduate University so she can continue to mentor more first generation college bound students through the arts.

Alma grew up in Boyle Heights, a Los Angeles community historically populated by Mexican, Central American, Jewish, Russian and Japanese immigrants.

Like many other inner-city communities, Boyle Heights unfortunately lacks art programs. It was Alma's mentors that gave her access to the arts, so she continues to pay-it-forward at the Urban Foundation's program, Kid City, where she works mentoring inner-city Los Angeles youth that she whole-heartedly identifies with.

(Equiped with walkie talkies, it's not difficult to see that these young people appreciate their mentor Alma.)

Alma has worked diligently and received various scholarships to get to where she is now, and she's passed on that enthusiasm and experience to many of her mentees.

This past summer, Alma was in Washington, D.C. as part of a fellowship program for Latino emerging museum scholars, and this winter she will be traveling to Mexico City as a participant in the highly competative DACA Dreamer Delegation Program where she will visit corporations and universities, and meet with Mexican students and government officials.

"One of the most successful bilingual exhibits in Washington D.C. has been Bittersweet Harvest. It was extended 3 times! By analyzing the educational posters, it gives me ideas about engagement opportunities with youth to bring back to Los Angeles." - Alma Catalán

The irony in Alma's story is that the further she has pursued her education, there are fewer scholarship opportunities for graduate art students. Let's change that by helping Alma pay for her final year of tuition so she can further support more young people to pursue their dreams.

Your contribution toward Alma's scholarship is 100% tax-deductable and will be collected by Agency Eleven, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in Los Angeles.  Agency Eleven will then transfer 100% of the funds collected (minus gofundme fees of approx. 6%) to Claremont Graduate University to help pay for Alma's final year of tuition in 2017.

Your contribution toward Alma's education supports countless more young people.

Gracias. תודה רבה לך. Spasibo. Arigatou. Thank you!
