This is where we are now with Skylar, with his orginal story following:::: Oct 20,2016 Evidently a diagnosis did not get translated to us so as a parent the news is devastating. I will try to explain it the best I can, Skylar Burroughs diagnosis is level 3 diffuse axonal brain injury. As there was shearing to the brain. He is not in a coma, he is in a vegetative state. Skylar will not wake up as Skylar. Neurons have been torn and can not regrow and brain cells have been damaged. He will not just wake up as you and I do in the morning, he may slowly open his eyes and look at you while your talking. He could walk again??? He could talk again??? He could need full assistance to live out the rest of his life, he could need minimal assitance???? We won't know anything until he starts showing more cognitive function. This is all very hard for me to take, so please understand I may be a little slow on updates or answering messages. They say this is years of progress for me to even have him as a functioning person and more than anything,,,I want my Skylar back.
Oct 22, 2016::So we are finally getting settled in our new temporary home. Things are different here but they are very good to Skylar Burroughs . He got a cool fluffy air mattress today so he doesn't get pressure sores. Physical therapy worked with him for quite a while. He is still breathing just a cool mist oxygen on his own during the day, it is not forced oxygen, he breathes it on his own. But then he goes back on the ventilator at night. His white cell count went up a little today so he had to go back on an antibiotic. He is resting well tonight, good heart rate and o2 levels
These are the updats from Cindy(mom). Skylar is in Eden Springs getting support he needs.  So for almost 20 days we all thought Skylar was in a coma, as you can see he is not. He is considered to be in a vegatived state. Although, he is no longer in Toledo, and is closer to Cindy, she still needs supplies for him. Eden Springs doesn't supply everything, and what they do supply, Skylar seems to not be taking well to their items.  Skylar is in need of lounge pants, large shirts, baby wipes(allergic to the ones given from Eden Springs), sensitive laundry soap, along with body wash products for sensitive skin( not provided), recieving blankets( to help hold his head, pillows are to large), baby wash rags that are needed to keep pressure sores off his face(placed in between face and brace).  Anything is greatly apperciated!! We thank all of you for sharing Skylar's story and praying, but he now has years worth of recovering in front of him.  We pray he comes home one day as the Skylar everyone knows and loves, but there is a chance, he won't, but we all need to be positive and pray!!! If this GoFundME is new to you, please continue to read to get the full story on Skylar. I have added this today (11/3/2016).
On Oct 1, 2016, Skylar  Burroughs, 17, was involved in a severe car accident. He was life flighted to St. Vincent's in Toledo, Ohio. One of his friends did not make it. This has taken a toll on his family. Skylar's condition is still critical. He is suffering from : brain bleeds, emergency surgery to repair his spleen and liver, lacerations to his lungs, broken neck, broken ribs, broken arm and pelvis.
Test are still being done to see if there is damage to his aortic valve.  Skylar is still on life-support. His Mom, Cindy Shank has not left his side.
Cindy lives a little over 50 miles away from the hospital. I am setting up this account in hopes people will see, she and Skylar need help. Cindy is going to need help with gas to get to and from the hospital (she does have a 8yr old son at home), and food to eat. Skylar is going to need money towards his medical bills and other expenses, because I'm sure his insurance will not be covering everything, and his hospital stay will be lengthy.
Please share so Skylar touches as many people as possiable and he can get prayers from around the world!! #PRAYERS4SKYLAR!!!!

OCTOBER 7TH, 2017............It's been awhile since I have updated about Skylar. Its been a long 12 months. Hard to believe this accident happened one year ago. After Skylar left St. V's, he went to a rehab center for a short time. He then was transferred to another rehab center closer to home here in Bettsville,Ohio. Skylar remained in the center for about a month or so when his Mom made the decision to bring him home to care for him. Skylar was NOT doing well in the rehab center, and Cindy felt he would succeed better at home with people he knew, surroundings he knew, and all the love and encouragement. In mid-January 2017, Skylar came home for the first time since Oct 1, 2016. It took a toll on Cindy and the rest of the family, because Sky was 24hr care. Through the rough nights, mornings, Sky was getting better. By getting better, I mean, no more oxygen, he was finally putting weight on ( g-tube of course), he was starting to smile. He just seemed HAPPY! In August, Skylar celebrated his 18th Birthday. The dr's finally removed his trach. Unfortunately, there was 2 incident's since he came home that his g- tub fell out and had to be taken by squad to the ER. Skylar and Cindy were getting help through friends, family and community to help with Skylar when Cindy needed a much needed break. A full-time nurse was finally brought in at the end of Sept. A benefit was being help on Oct 1st, the anniversary of the car accident, to help with medical bills and funeral expenses for Emily. On Sept 30th, Skylar was taken yet again by squad to the ER due to the g-tube once again falling out. They replaced the tube, took a urine sample, and a chest xray, because Sky was running a fever. The Dr never ordered blood work and sent them on their way. At the benefit Skylar looked tired, overwhelmed and had the look of "I dont feel good". His g-tube site looked to be infected which his home nurse verified the next day on Oct 2nd. On Oct 3rd, Skylar was struggling to breath. His breathing is shallow, with breaths at 6 per minute. The apnea between breaths is between 15-20 seconds. His oxygen rate is 77 without his O2 on and 92 with it on. He is on pain meds around the clock along with antibiotics to fight any infection he may have. The family and Dr agreed to have Hospice come in to help keep him comfortable. The next 48hrs was hard not knowing if God was going to take this child HOME. With the advice of the doctor, yesterday we had to stop Skylars tube feed, they believe there may be something going on intestinal with Skylar. The doctor needs to start further treatment that can not be provided in the home, with that being said, Skylar will be moved to an inpatient hospice facility today. Skykar was admitted to Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay, Ohio which is about 40-45mins away. I not only wanted to update, but to also ask to keep Sky in prayers once again!!!!! If you would like to donate, Cindy is going to need gas money or gift cards to get back and forth every day, a long with money for food. All donations will help gas, food, and of course Skylars ever MOUNTING insurance bills. The girl who caused the accident, has been charged and sentence. Their insurance isn't paying out much which has to be divided between Skylar, Emily and Jake ( who she hit). Once that check comes in, Skylar's insurance will take it to put towards his cost which is in the hundreds of thousands. We are praying he fights through this, and comes back home. But only God and prayer can decide that. Thank you all again!!! #PRAYERS4SKYLAR!!!!!
