Cedar strip canoe

Donation protected
We are an indigenous couple seeking help to raise money so that we may purchase our own cedar stripped canoe. Our canoe family is a home to continue empowering First Nations youth and young adults through the traditional teachings of our ancestors on land and the water.

Steven Recalma is from Qualicum First Nation and an experienced skipper working with two different canoe families since 2010. He works with youth year-round through outdoor activities such as paddling and snowboarding.
His fiancé, Ecko Aleck is from the Nlakapa'mux Nation and has a lifetime background of culture, ceremonies, singing and dancing from Interior Salish and Coast Salish territories.

We recently completed Tribal Journeys 2017 paddle to We Wai Kai and We Wai Kum with a youth canoe, Steven as skipper and Ecko as Cultural Support. On this journey it became very clear the importance of maintaining a safe space for these young adults to embrace culture without an "age limit" attached to their journey. We very much support youth canoes and wish to create our own home for those who are still needing a family and that connection from land and water to the ancestors.

Any little bit helps. If you cannot donate, we ask that you share our story to spread the word and help bring our vision to life.

Hych'ka,
