My name is Jelena, and I am originally from Serbia, a country in South-Eastern Europe. A few days ago I came across this GoFundMe Campaign, and discovered that they are giving away ten scholarships to ten students across the country. In order to qualify for this give away, I need to start my own campaign for tuition, and raise money from at least ten unique donors by 12 pm PDT on September 28th.
I hope that if you read my story, you could help me to fulfill my goal, and qualify for this scholarship!
My life in the United States was filled with learning, and the ongoing struggle to adapt to the new environment. I believe that the school could strengthen my knowledge, and teach me to focus my talent to empower underserved population in our communities. My goal is to graduate from the Nursing Program and enter the field.
This unique scholarship could help me to pay at least part of the tuition of very costly Nursing Program.
My primary motivation to go back to school is to learn more and give back . Connection and immersion with our communities is my core value. While living a life in a foreign country, I learned how difficult it is to build a reliable support system in a new environment. There were times when I did not have anybody to help me when I was sick. I promise that given the chance I will put forth my very best.I hope that I will get at least ten unique donations in the next three days that will help me to qualify for this scholarship!
With your support, I will be able to pay for the tuition and my high education expenses.
Please, help me to spread the word, and collect at least ten donations!
Thank you so much,

Degree Objective : Master's' Entry Program in Nursing
I am originally from Serbia, a country in South-Eastern Europe. I came to the United States nine years ago through the exchange culture program focused on child-care and immersion of international students into the new culture. My life in the United States was filled with learning, and the ongoing struggle to adapt to the new environment. Because of those challenges, academic preparation, and strong desire to contribute in the development of better health services, I am ready to start The Master’s Entry Program in Nursing at UC Davis. I believe that this program could strengthen my knowledge, and teach me to focus my talent to empower underserved population in our communities.
I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Japanese Language and Literature at The University of Belgrade, Serbia. While my converted GPA of 2.84 is slightly below the UC David’s admission requirement ,I believe my experience in different educational systems makes up the difference. The amount of studying, research, and work that I gave in order to obtain this degree was tremendous. Each of our exams and projects consisted of both written and oral portions. The written part gave us the opportunity to shape our existing knowledge in the form of essay questions. The oral part challenged us to prove how much we understand the material, and how well we are able to apply it. This experience taught me the importance of direct, and precise communication. Because of this, today I am able to comfortably speak in front of a large audiences, and articulately express my ideas. After I moved to the US, I enrolled in pre-nursing program at De Anza College in September 2009. Three years at this Community College served me to explore many innovative teaching styles. Focused approach and paced quarter system taught me to extract the most important information of a particular topic. Numerous science courses laid strong foundation in my knowledge, and helped me to learn to connect small pieces of the puzzle into the bigger picture of science and life processes. I transferred to the Nursing Program at College of San Mateo to explore the world of nursing as a profession. There, I practiced my critical thinking skills, and interaction with a diverse population in the clinical setting. Some of the hospitals where I utilized my clinical skills were San Mateo County Hospital, Seton Coastside Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. Unfortunately, due to health challenges I needed to step out of the program, and devote some time on the improvement of my condition. Today, I am grateful that I feel healthy and ready to continue my journey in the nursing profession.
The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis mission statement reflects my own personal values. My own actions as a student match school's mission to provide an excellent education through immersion and interdisciplinary knowledge, by joining variety of health professions together. I believe that diversity reflects our capability to overcome our differences, and enhance our mutual goals for the benefit of humanity.By merging our talents, skills, and resources, we can build stronger teams, and improve our health services in the community. My service to the community transportation agency "Lift Hero" since November of last year demonstrates my compassion and love for the work with senior population.Every week, I dedicate at least 5 hours to the companionship and transportation of the elderly. In addition, my life as an international student in California taught me to better connect with the people from different cultures. This helped me to learn about their traditions, and belief system in regards to the communication patterns and health care.
My primary motivation to start with UC Davis Graduate Program is to build a strong framework of educated and empowered individuals who will be able to advocate for themselves, and for better health services. Connection and immersion with our communities is my core value. While living a life in a foreign country, I learned how difficult it is to build a reliable support system in a new environment. There were times when I did not have anybody to help me when I was sick. This country has millions of citizens and immigrants that are in the similar position. I hope that UC Davis graduate program will provide me with the necessary knowledge, and skills to empower those who need a support. I promise that given the chance I will put forth my very best.
