Chris and Jen Dries are close and dear friends of mine. I've watched and have been part of their relationship as it evolved from a seemingly impossible dream for them both, as Jen lives in Utah and Chris was in Australia, to a mutual respectful and loving commitment into their marriage in October of 2016.
Chris has gone through the immigration process to move to Utah, retiring from a 17-year career in the Australian Defense Force, leaving a civilian job he dearly loved working with the disabled to help them find jobs and careers, and said goodbye to friends and family, to move and pursue US citizenship with his wife in Utah.
The day he was set to leave, the Australian government issue a Departure Prohibition Order on his passport claiming he owed an incredible amount of taxes that turned out to be a complete miscalcuation due to the fact that he was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and was forced to take an extended leave from his jobs until he was in full remission in 2015, at which time he returned to the workforce.
Fighting this wrongful order has drained their savings that they were going to use to start Jen's brainchild, the Utah YFARM Program. This business is set to help the disabled and military veterans alike get apprenticeships in the agriculture industry. Please check out the website Utahyfarmprogram.com. This program was developed in collaboration with the Utah Department of Labor, Utah State University Extension, the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation, and the Farmer Veteran Coalation.
While the Australian government has rescended the order, it so far has refused to return any of their savings. This action has disrupted their moving forward with their business endeavors, disrupted their plans, and family.
Chris and Jen have devoted their entire lives to contributing and serving thier country's, communities, and family. Between them they're raising 4 wonderful girls. They are amazing parents and are completely devoted to their children, and are people that you'd love to know and live next door to.
I'm asking on their behalf for any amount that you can give to help my friends begin their lives and realize their dreams, to welcome Chris to the United States and show that we take care of our own and those that want to be a part of what makes America a great and wonderful nation, and allow them to pay it forward by their continued service to the community.
Anything you can give would be most sincerely and greatly appreciated by them and by me.
