Help with Austin's Cancer Expenses

On August 10, 2016, my brother-in-law, Austin Nelson, was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. For an otherwise healthy 24-year-old, this was unexpected and devastating news for Austin and his wife (my sister), Kayla. Luckily, Austin was able to have surgery the week after his diagnosis, and recently started chemotherapy on September 21st.

Unfortunately, Austin is still on his parents’ health insurance, which does not adequately cover his medical expenses. This leaves him and his wife to pay for many of their bills out of pocket. Kayla works full time as a nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital, but Austin is unable to work while he gets treatment and has deferred from Boise State this year. He was supposed to graduate with his accounting degree in May and planned on getting his CPA afterwards. Austin and Kayla also have an 8-month old daughter, Lily.

Any money donated to this fund will go straight towards Austin’s medical expenses. My brother-in-law and sister are some of the sweetest and strongest people I know. Someone so young should NOT have to deal with colon cancer, something that doctors have rarely seen in someone Austin’s age. So far their medical bills add up to tens of thousands of dollars, and that doesn’t even include the care he will receive over the next 6 months while he undergoes chemo. The burden of a cancer diagnoses is overwhelming enough; they should not have to deal with this immense financial burden as well.

Austin and his family are extremely grateful for the amount of support they have received so far. Everyone has been so kind and selfless in serving their family. They can’t thank you enough for your support and prayers on their behalf!
