Acute myeloid leukemia is a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow with excess immature white blood cells. This is a rare cancer only affecting less than 2% of the US population. The cancer is treatable by chemo therapy and repeated blood transfusions. I was blessed to be accepted by MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas, however my journey is just beginning.
I am not able to work as I fight for my life. Nothing can prepare a family for a life threatening illness. Medical cost in addition to insurance premiums are mounting. With treatment for this rare illness expected to last a year or more, the financial cost are going to quickly consume all of our resources.
I'm a proud veteran to this country. A loyal serviceman in the United States Postal service. Father to a US solider and devoted husband to my wife. I thought I was fully prepared to provide for my family in the wake of an illness or injury but I never expected to be diagnosed with a life threatening illness two weeks before my 47th birthday.
I love my family and I promise that I will fight this cancer with everything I have. I look forward to the day that I can say I beat cancer with the love, prayers and support of my friends, family and community. There is not an amount too small to make a large difference in our lives at this moment. I also ask that you share this story and ask others to share as well. During my journey I pray that I can enlightenment other men and women of God to prepare for the unexpected, never miss out or take a moment of time with their families for granted. Thank you for taking a moment of your time to send your prayers and donations to family.
