Buddy Cage's Medical Fund

$25,302 of $35,000 goal

Raised by 333 people in 22 months
Hi,
I am Natalie Menegus, Publicist for New Riders of the Purple Sage.
As most of you know, Buddy Cage was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2012. Since then, he has gone through chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. Buddy himself has given high praise to his amazing oncology team. He has been able to continue rocking out with New Riders of the Purple Sage and Stir Fried, despite his ailments.
What most of you don't know is that Buddy was recently hospitalized and is still battling blood cancer compounded by a heart condition. As you can imagine, medical costs don't come cheap. Because of this, I am asking for donations, from you, to go towards Buddy's medical expenses. Anything, big or small, is one step closer to the healing of this iconic pedal steel giant.
Thank you for your continued love and support!!

We did it!! Thanks to several generous donations recently, we have pushed above and beyond the $25,000 goal for Buddy’s medical and living expenses! And what better day to have done it than on Buddy’s Birthday!!

He is currently spending his days in the Hawaiian breeze, soaking up much needed vitamin D, telling stories and enjoying life. However, he will be headed back to Connecticut soon. I would like to keep the momentum going by increasing the goal. The support that everyone has given, from financial to emotional, is what has encouraged Buddy to keep moving forward.

Thank you SO much for your big hearts and grand love for Buddy. ✌❤️

If you would like to send Buddy a personal message or donation via USPS, please mail it to:

PO Box 1216

*Please be advised that I am holding all of Buddy’s mail until he returns to Connecticut.
$25,000 goal was reached on 2/18/2018!!!

Greetings Friends!

Today is the first day of Buddy’s Birthday month! He will be turning a young 72 on February 18th. He has been relaxing and enjoying sunsets in Hawaii and will be there through the rest of the month. He is surrounded by good hearted, loving friends who are hosting a few benefits for him while he is there. If you are in the area and have a chance to go see him, please do so!!

We are all so lucky Buddy is with us for another trip around the sun. It’s been one hell of a roller coaster the last couple of years for him. Nonetheless, he has tried his best to get out there and enjoy a few shows that are in honor of him. The future of his health is still unwritten but it’s friends like you that keep his spirit flying high!!

I am proud to say, between all of you, we have raised over $23,000 just from this GoFundMe campaign alone. That’s not including the individual benefit donations that have and will be happening. I have been able to disburse funds to Buddy nearly every month since this campaign started. He has survived from your goodwill and encouragement through this tough time and he is forever grateful.

Thank you again for all of the love and support you have shown Buddy!
If you would like to send Buddy a card, letter or separate donation from the GoFundMe, please send mail to:

Buddy Cage
c/o Natalie Menegus
PO Box 1216
Powell, TN 37849

*Please be advised that I am holding all of Buddy’s mail until he returns to Connecticut next month. Should you send a check donation to the PO Box, it will not clear the bank until he is able to deposit it. Please make all checks out to Buddy Cage.
A Hawaiian sunset shot from Buddy!

Hello Friends!
I just wanted to send out a little update on Buddy before we all get into the full swing of the holidays.

Buddy had a great Thanksgiving filled with lots of food and friends that have been family to him since the 80’s! Today, he is attending a benefit concert in snowy Conneticut, that is being held for him by several bands and friends of his. The picture that is attached was sent to me this morning from Buddy at The Hungry Tiger, where the benefit is taking place.

Buddy is determined to keep going and keep moving, even through the snow. He is so incredibly grateful for EVERYTHING that EVERYONE has done for him this past year. The delightful notes people have sent, comments that have been written, the benefit concerts and monetary donations have ALL kept this legend alive and moving forward. Let’s keep the momentum going into 2018!

If you would like to send a holiday card, a note, donation or anything to Buddy, please send it to the following PO Box and I will be sure it gets to him!

Buddy Cage

PO Box 1216
Powell, TN 37849

Again, thank you to EVERYONE who has sent loving and energizing vibes straight to Buddy. I wish you all a safe and warm holiday season! More updates soon!

1978-81 My Long Island based Country Jam Band often opened for NRPS at NY Metro area clubs like the Lone Star Cafe, My Father's Place, Bottom Line, etc. In the 90's when they toured as a trio: John Dawson, Russ Gauthier and Gary Vogensen my wife and I became friends with them and even published a newsletter as well as helping them get gigs in the area. We maintained our friendship with Buddy as well - saw him play with local bands. Our last contact with Dawson & NRPS with Buddy was in 1995 at a memorial show for Jerry Garcia - other artists were Rick Danko, Buddy Miles, Tom Constantin. We last saw Buddy with David Nelson and the revived NRPS about 8 years ago. So sorry to hear that Buddy's health has deteriorated and hope he overcomes it!

I recently found in basement boxes a CBC (tv ) recording of a band I was playing with ( as the drummer ) in which Buddy was on steel. The gig was back in 1967 at ( the now defunct ) American Air Base in Goose Bay Labrador. Buddy and I met at that time and we have not seen each other since the Labrador gig but I think he will remember me. I returned to Toronto where I have remained in the music business playing for many years with John Arpin ( a well known pianist and arranger in Toronto. ) Please send Buddy my best wishes for a quick and successful recovery. I also wanted to ask you if Buddy might like a copy of the CBC recording. It was a long long time ago and we were just kids but I will send it along if he is interested . Thank you. Dean Macdonald
