Joenel’s Kidney Transplant

My name is Joenel Humes and I am a 19 year old female who lives in Nassau,Bahamas. I was diagnosed with a chronic inflammatory disease (Lupus) in February 2013. When lupus is present the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues and organs. In December 2012, I experienced swelling in my legs, and sky high blood pressure readings. I was also hospitalized in Princess Margaret Hospital for almost a month and a half after experiencing symptoms. However, due to minimum help at the hospital in The Bahamas, I went over to Miami's Children Hospital in the United States, where a kidney biopsy was done testing positive for Lupus. After three years of not having any horrible flares, I am now experiencing trauma that has me constantly hospitalized. As a result of lupus attacking my organs I am now on dialysis. It is my greatest desire to receive assistance as much as possible to receive a kidney transplant and the proper medical care that is needed for me to combat this illness.
