Wishes for Gigi

Buddy and Angel's Animal Rescue is a small, non-profit animal rescue that works with the transient/homeless animal population of Humboldt County. We typically assist with spay/neuter, vaccinations, food and the occasional vet visit. We rarely take in animals, as we do not have a facility and mainly operate out of our home.

However, a few months ago, Gigi captured our hearts. Gigi was in a sad situation and had an obvious broken spirit. Gigi's care taker was referred to our rescue from the local business, New Directions.

We decided to take Gigi into our rescue program when we realized that she needed help in getting healthy (Gigi was covered in mange, secondary infections and was underweight.) We knew that we needed to help Gigi not only get healthy, but hopefully find her a loving home.

We learned this sweetheart was one of the many homeless dogs that resided behind the infamous "Devil's Playground" in Eureka, CA. With that said, Eureka Police Department's Animal Control Officer, Villareal, jumped at the chance to help us treat Gigi. We fostered her while EPD was extremely generous in paying for Gigi's first office visit and round of medication.
After a couple of intense TLC months in foster (medications, office visits, skin scrapes, frequent medicated bathes, etc.) we were finally able to get her spayed, thanks to EPD!
Shortly after her spay, Gigi started to favor her rear right leg. We paid for x-rays and more medication and found that this 6 month old puppy, who finally looked like a "real dog," now had torn her CCL!
(I've included some wonderful educational links describing what a torn CCL exactly means and what demodetic mange is.)
At first we were told that there was a possibility that she may heal with strict exercise, so we immediately put Gigi on lock down.
A second set of x-rays, more medication and several emails back and fourth to orthopedic animal surgery clinic, determined that Gigi most likely has a CCL disease which affects both of her knees. The estimated surgery for a double TPLO is approximately $3600 per knee.
(I have also included a link to describe what TPLO means.)
As of today, Gigi favors her right rear leg most, however she sometimes decides that it's too much pain to walk, so she bunny hops or sits down rather than walking further.

Gigi is fantastic with all dogs she has met, adores children and really wants to be apart of a family. Gigi is truly a fantastic girl, especially considering the tragic situation we took her from.

We are hoping for two wishes for Gigi. For her to feel no more pain and for her to find her forever home.

If you are in any position to donate anything, please-please-please help with her surgery and save her from a life full of pain!

All donations are tax deductible through our non-profit.
Thank you so much for reading about Gigi and sharing her sad story.
