Astrid's Cancer Battle

My daughter Astrid has always been generous and kind to those around her. Always caring for other’s needs and desires. She is a selfless soul who gives with a true heart and a sincere smile. She has always enjoyed cooking and over the past months she developed a passion for baking.
This past June she was diagnosed with breast cancer. During her visit to Guatemala she began to feel something strange in her breast that forced her to visit a doctor. After waiting for multiple exam results, we were delivered with bad news. A tumor was found on Astrid’s breast and she was diagnosed with cancer…
The doctor went ahead and explained to us that the cancer had already reached phase three. This forced us to start her treatment right away! Last week she finished her 4th chemotherapy (and there are more to come). After she completes all the chemotherapy treatment, she has to proceed to the mastectomy. As many of you may know, this is a process that involves multiple doctor appointments and radiotherapies to make sure the cancer is completely out of her system.
I am currently living in Boston. My wife Miriam had to travel back to Guatemala to take care of our daughter. With much love she has been cooking vegetable soups to keep Astrid strong and nourished. Sometimes my wife wakes up at three in the morning or stays up all night in order to help Astrid with her needs. It is also hard for my wife and I to be away from each other, but we are both willing to do anything we can to help our daughter feel better. I'm living alone for now, working hard to support my family and to pay for chemotherapy bills. My other daughter and her husband have been sharing their house in Guatemala with my wife and Astrid. They try to help and support this chemotherapy process in ways they can. We have been seeing the chemo symptoms on Astrid’s body after each appointment. Let me share something with you, they are far from easy! The treatment provokes her a lot of nausea, stomachaches, and most of the time she can’t stay awake because her body is so drained. She has even lost her appetite. She also has lost all her hair. The doctors said that the next chemotherapy might have different reactions in her body; and it may cause some allergies too.
It has been a big challenge for everyone, but we know God is in control of the situation. He is the only one that has given us hope and strength! And we will continue to pray for our daughter. We feel very supported by friends and family that are also asking and praying for her recovery. They have helped us in many ways. I know God is the one who provides for all our needs, and in the mist of it all, He has given us peace. I believe He is the one in control and He will never forsake us. I know He is our shelter, our healer, and our father.
Be sure that all the money we raise here will be used for my daughter’s treatment and surgery. We will receive the donations and send them to Guatemala to continue with the chemotherapy and the mastectomy. We appreciate all of your donations and your prayers for Astrid.

Mi hija Astrid siempre ha sido una persona que ayuda a los demás, ha puesto las necesidades de otros antes que sus propios deseos. Recuerdo que siempre le ha gustado dar regalos y detalles a los que le rodean dondequiera que esté. No es egoista y siempre da a otros de Corazón con una sonrisa sincera. Le encanta cocinar, el pasado Diciembre empezó a aprender repostería y a hacer postres.
En Junio fue diagnosticada con cáncer de mama. Estando en Guatemala para pasar un tiempo después de haber estado con nosotros en USA, fué al doctor porque sentía algo extraño en su busto, el doctor le envio a hacer exámenes y después de eso nos dieron la mala noticia, tiene un tumor en su pecho… canceroroso. El cáncer estaba ya en fase 3 asi que tuvimos que movernos rápido para iniciar el tratamiento. La semana pasada terminó su 4ta. Quimioterapia pero vendrán mas antes de proceder a la masectomía. Después de esto para asegurar que el cáncer se haya ido, tendrá que someterse a radioterapia y mantener un control constante con los mïdicos.
Yo vivo en Boston con mi esposa Miriam quien tuvo que viajar de vuelta a Guatemala para cuidar a Astrid. Ha estado cocinando sus sopas de vegetales para que ella coma algo y se alimente. Ha tenido que despertar a las 3am porque no puede dormir, le ayuda con todas sus necesidades. Es difícil para nosotros estar separados pero ambos queremos lo mejor para Astrid y dariamos cualquier cosa porque se sienta mejor. Estoy viviendo solo por ahora y trabajando duro para sostener a mi familia además de pagar por las quimioterapias, exámenes y medicinas. Mi otra hija Jackeline y su esposo Mario han estado compartiendo su casa con Miriam y Astrid después de cada quimioterapia para ayudarlos de la manera que ellos puedan. Hemos visto que los síntomas los dias despues del tratamiento son muy difíciles y molestos. Astrid tiene náusea todo el tiempo, dolor de estómago, no puede mantenerse despierta porque su cuerpo esta muy cansado, ha perdido todo su cabello y no tiene apetito. El doctor ha dicho que las quimioterapias que vienen tendran reacciones diferentes; tambien podrian causar alergias.
Realmente ha sido una prueba para todos pero sabemos que Dios está en control de la situación. El es el único que nos da esperanza y fuerza y continuaremos orando y creyendo por nuestra hija. Nos sentimos sostenidos por nuestros amigos y familia, quienes tambien oran por su recuperación y nos han ayudado de muchas maneras. Yo sé que Dios es el que provee para todas nuestras necesidades y que en medio de todo nos ha dado paz. Creo que es el único que tiene el control y que nunca nos dejará solos, El es nuestro refugio, nuestro sanador, nuestro Padre.
Estén seguros que todo el dinero que recaudemos aquí sera usado para el tratamiento de mi hija, su operación y recuperación. Recibiremos las donaciones y las enviaremos a Guatemala para continuar las quimioterapias y la masectomía. Apreciamos y agradecemos todas sus donaciones y oraciones por Astrid.
