Red Raven Meadery
I have been making my own mead, at home, for over 30 years now. Everyone who has ever drank it has agreed it is the best Mead, and some say best adult beverage, they have ever tasted.
Not some people, not people trying to be polite, EVERYONE. I know this is hard to believe, but I have never had a single negative comment.
These days craft beverages are extremely popular, it is time to go pro!
What is Mead? Some refer to it as “Honey wine” but I do not think it can be called a wine really, it is much better then that.
Their are several “secrets” to my mead, and of course I can not share them all here. But I will a few. First of all, it has more honey content then most Meads commercially available. Second I will never serve my Mead until it has aged properly. Many commercial Meaderies sell theirs after as little as 3 months.
Their are two other secrets as well, but I have to keep those to myself, I am sure you understand
I have worked on my plans for this for years, plans to get land, planting the proper “bee food” and having the bee colonies to produce enough honey to get into production. But this is not really needed. Better I now realize to focus on what I do best, Mead making and let partners do the rest. Honey, pure organic honey, of the right kinds, is available in bulk at a reasonable price. So I have rewritten my plans accordingly, and it makes a HUGE difference start-up costs wise.
So of course there is a secondary problem, thataging I spoke of. I will not have any product available until it is ready. But that is OK with me, I can wait, the Mead is worth it. When it is Red Raven Mead at least it is worth the wait.
So what do I need? A location for production, happily I am in a rural area so that wont be very expensive, some equipment, bottles, etc. and of course honey.. I now have the location but it needs a little improvement. Money again....
What about me? I work for free. I wont be taking any money out of the company until year 2 and I am fine with that and in a position where that wont be a problem happily.
So what do I need? My estimate is $15,000 to get off the ground and make the first production run of 5,000+ bottles. This includes all equipment needed so year two production will be even more profitable.
That is for all of the things mentioned above for the first year, all costs except labor, but that is just me so no worries
Why help? Well first of all craft beverages are an important part of our society. Small , handcrafted brewers and winery's have revolutionized the flavors of drinks, Time for part two of that revolution.
Secondly, it will make the best adult beverage you have ever tried available to YOU, OK not until next year, but it is worth the wait
Here is what I need the money for.
A/C and new heat system
Equipment is about $5,000
Then the honey itself, for 5,000 bottles, about $5,000
For a total of $10,000
Please consider giving us a hand to make dreams come true.
First I bottled that first batch, and I must say it turned out beautiful a wonderful looking batch if ever I made one
Second A dear friend came up with a fascinating idea. A Mead cookbook. She knows cooking is my passion, not just cooking Mead but all cooking and she mentioned how good it would be to have a cookbook specific to Mead. I have begun assembling recipes and must say, the potential is enormous. She will help me to turn it into an eBook when I am done so it will be available on our website as soon as it is done, I am thinking maybe 6 months or so, just in time for the launch
the third thing may be the most exciting, I have been considering moving for some time now and I have found the ideal home, ideal for several reasons, price, location and more, but mostly because it has an additional building which will make a fine Meadery. A nice stand alone building which will meet all government requirements.
So what do I need? Money of course, please pass this gofundme to your friends, I need all the help I can get, it is all falling together nicely
and as an aside, the building I refer to even has a lovely porch to sit on and sip mead
Rick - licensing is actually from the state of Ohio and no i have not however i will not need to until I am ready to sell. As a producer the licensing is easy to get unlike a bar or restaurant.
Have you already obtained the licensing from ATF?
