NYC Marathon + Shoe4Africa Charity

Donation protected
To my family and friends,

As some of you may heard, I’ve decided to take on the NYC marathon this year on the 6th of November. It’s without a doubt the craziest decision I’ve made in my life given the fact that this is a very difficult challenge to pursue (also my first time), but I’m willing to take the risk and work hard for one reason. The main reason why I’m taking on this challenge is because I found out that I could help someone by running for a charity. I figured if I’m going to take on a new challenge in my life, it’d be amazing if it benefited someone else other than myself.

The charity I’m running for is called Shoe4Africa and I have a goal of $3000 to earn for them. I know that this charity will absolutely make the most out of what we can give them to help.

To give you some more information about this charity, I’ve put together a summary below with the help from Toby Tanser, the founder of this charity:

In the beginning, Shoe4Africa was not in the medical business, it began with the simple task of collecting running shoes. These shoes lead to the prevention of Hookworm & Jiggers. Also learning the horrors of malaria, they began awareness classes to help prevent the spread of that disease. After that, they started an AIDS Awareness program, as well as built four public schools. When this charity was discovered for a population of over 200-million, there wasn’t one single dedicated public children’s hospital. 1 in 9 kids are dying before their 5th birthday; almost a child per family. It’s stated that 2/3rds of all these are either treatable or preventable, and 80% of those will have never seen a healthcare provider in their short lives.

There isn’t enough attention given to the health of the children.

On August 12th of 2015, the charity successfully opened the first dedicated public children’s hospital in East Africa.

Now it’s our goal to make the child the priority and better equip the hospital this charity has built.

If we donate money to Shoe4Africa, we will be directly improving the lives of African children by supporting these Health & Educational projects. Toby has been updating us every week with photographs and stories from Africa, and I’m absolutely positive that with whatever you can donate, it will make a difference.

I’m doing the best I can in conditioning myself to be able to run and finish this marathon (I started training in the month of June and hopefully will be seeing more progression until the day we get out there), so If you’d like to help support me in this effort, please do donate however much you can! Every dollar counts! Also don’t forget that these donations to Shoe4Africa are tax deductible. A mighty thank you to you guys for taking the time to read and for whatever amount you donate.

My absolute best and deepest gratitude,

Miguel
