Animal Rescue Efforts

Jodie Senkyrik  BLANCO, TX
I live in rural Texas, and therefore, like others living in rural areas, I'm the target for people who dump their unwanted cats or dogs. Seeing animals suffer in so many different ways is a difficult thing to see. I've seen some animals so emaciated from being "lost" or dumped, they couldn't eat food at first. I've seen stray animals be killed on the roads, because they were trying to eat some piece of the previous animal that was killed. I've seen kittens walk into traffic out in the middle of nowhere on some of the country roads of Texas. When a cat or dog comes by my place because they smell water or something they think could be food, I found myself unwilling to turn them away. But the ever-increasing expenses of food and vet bills are very difficult on my limited budget.

I'm currently caring for (as of Jan, 2019) 18 animals after many months of failed attempts to find whatever previous owner might have existed. I expect more will find their way here, although, I know other rural residents have this happen, too.

Finally, I will not foster any indifference and cruelty to these animals that others sometimes suggest or practice. And as long as I can, I will not ignore their needs. My hope is that one day someone will become their family. Until then, I am their family and this is my GoFundMe effort to help with food and increasing vet bills.

I must make a confession. I wonder sometimes what it might be like to have only 1 or 2 animals with me. I wonder how other people's lives are with only 1 or 2 pets. I confess that I do. But, then I think I cannot imagine not caring for each of these animals. Maybe parents think like that sometimes, also.
Relationships grow, especially since I've given all of them names. Each of them has their own personality, likes and dislikes. They all have their own unique voices, as well. I can hear their voices and know who is making the sound.
I started rescuing after I finished my bach. degree in college. I found 2 small puppies on the side of the road in rural Texas. My car pulled over and I caught them both - no houses around - no one I asked claimed them. One soon passed away, but Sobig, the other one, was with me for almost 16 years. Sobig became famous at my graduate school, because I took her to school with me from time to time. She was the only one with me for all her years, so I do know what it's like. I can't yet find a digital photo of her, but I hope to post one when I can find one.
(The photo below is of "Miracle" - so named because as a kitten, she disappeared for 36 hours. With coyotes and foxes nearby, I prayed asking for a miracle in finding her and she appeared within 60 seconds.)

It's time for me to ask, again. Funds to help the animals are running out. My animal food will soon run out. I'm asking for your help to continue to feed and care for the animals. I've acquired a "health related expenses only" credit card to help cover vet bills only, which have been mounting. If you are able, and I know many are not, but if you are, please go to my GoFundMe page to donate. And as always, thank you.

No one has mentioned this, but I want to offer it anyway. If anyone would like to support our animal rescue efforts, but not by donating through GoFundMe, I am willing to provide individuals with my delivery address for anyone who would prefer to purchase cat/dog food directly and have it delivered, OR I can provide my veterinarian's contact information to anyone that prefers to donate directly to cover vet costs for the animals (which are extensive, also). Let me know ahead, so I can offer suggestions on which foods and who has the best prices.
So many of you have been extremely helpful, which is why I always consider this effort to be a team effort and not an individual's effort. I am not able to offer the cats and dogs what I do on the team, without your being a part of the team, as well. Thank you from my heart to yours, and God bless you very much.

It's cold, but I've got some type of warm solution for as many of the animals as possible. However, I'm looking for a heating pad which has NO automatic shutoff switch. This is for nighttime to add some heat to animal bedding. Anyone know?
